Is this a prototype 3 Band?

Hey guys,

I saw this on ebay, it's a '85 Stingray, however it's got a 3 band EQ. The seller says its all original, however I didnt think the 3 band came out until 1987? Anyone know what it is?

I've seen the same thing with a 1986 Bass.

Although dated 1985 it probably didn't leave the factory until 1987 or late 1986.

Oh yeah, it's got a pre-EB headstock logo too. Real transitional bass I guess.

Just noticed a preamp wire has non-original splicing. The body may well have been modified to take the 3EQ.
