So I'm sitting here with my beautiful Blue Dawn fretless Bongo hanging in front of me, just admiring how great it looks.

And unbidden, into my head, pops the idea that I should replace my beloved DG fretted Bongo with an 07 LE.

Just because Blue Dawn looks so good.

BP, you and your henchmen (and henchwomen) are evil incarnate.

If I were Ritchie or Jack or one of the other folks who likes to keep a dozen-odd basses hanging around, I'd have already called Pete.

You could just send me your DG Bongo, then you wouldn't have to worry about having a bunch of basses hanging around. :D

No you shouldn't replace.

You should buy in addition to...that's how I work. The more that merrier! :D

Oh, I hear that! And don't think I haven't thought of it.

Just to get serious for a moment.....

From your sig, you have...hmmm....let's see....twelve grand US invested in basses alone? Maybe more?

I have that much invested in music equipment, but most of it is in other gear. I own all of my band's gear...three Bose L1 systems, with extras...plus my two Bongos. Plus miscellaneous other crap that I haven't gotten rid of yet. It's a lot of money.

Point is, like you I'm not afraid to spend serious green on my music "hobby."

To me, it's well worth the cost...it gives me great joy and satisfaction, easily as much as anything else in my life. I drive a cheap car. I prefer to spend the money that would have bought me a BMW on musical toys because music, and more specifically making music with my friends, is rewarding beyond any satisfaction I might get from a mere object.

So you'd think that I'd just go ahead and order another bass.

But I'm a results-oriented, analytical, logical person. To me, something I buy must serve some purpose that nothing else I own serves. And it must be something I use. So, one fretted bass, one fretless bass. Both get played. Owning another bass just because it's pretty doesn't sit well with me. I simply do not understand people who buy things and put them in storage, because of collectibility.

I'd LOVE to own a 30th, because it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen and it sounds like God. It's also going to hold its value. And I could afford to buy one, right now, no sweat. But I know it would bug me because I don't need it, and I'm not a four-string guy, and I wouldn't play it for that reason. It just wouldn't be right, y'know?

That right there is the biggest reason for me too.

But I've just always said, never get rid of a great bass. ;)

I think that you should buy the SR4...clueless dealers are marking them down.....go grind on your local GC........Whoops!

THe Sting Ray is one of three classics and this is the best one and we only made a few for the world. WE wont see the total package at the price offered ever again....trust me.

Not a disease....an addiction! Just buy it and get it over with. Everytime one of us knuckleheads starts a thread like this....they end up buying it anyway....you are at the edge and want us to push you over....so, I will step up and give you a little shove so you can blame me....;)

Post pics when you get it to...lol :D

I fell in love with Blue Dawn and am on my quest to getting one of each guitar "line" in that color. I'm currently at 3 in house but wanting to order more to round out the collection...
