I know what you guys mean. I'm going to have to eat some of my words this morning.

I took my HH Bongo 5er to the gig last night to use as a back-up to my SR5. I made the mistake of picking it up and playing it for the last set. Holy Crap! It never seemed to work with the originals that I was playing in my old band. I even told Ray Duke last week that I wasn't sure I liked it. It rocked the house playing covers with this new band. I think my SR5 just crawled into the back and will probably stay there for a while.

I had a single H Bongo 5 and it's definitely not the same as a Stingray. The obvious difference are the mids controls but it also has it's own sound. I don't know for sure but it sounds to me like the frequencies of the treble and bass controls may be a little different than the Stingray.

I played my HH Bongo for two out of three sets last night. It's an amazing instrument.

that thing was above and beyond, wasn't it?

Jack

Jack,
I am asking a serious question; why do you think it was so different from the rest?
I might also ask if you are talking about other single h's are just the doubles?
I am just curious.

Mojo?

No, seriously, I'm not sure it was so different from the other single hummers, but keep in mind I've only played one other one (my ex-fiver). It could have been a combination of things, really - great drummer, great guitarists, great amp and cabs, but something about that particular bass really got my attention.

I dunno exactly what, but I liked it a LOT.

Even when I wasn't playing it, or actually especially when I wasn't playing it, it sounded absolutely wonderful.

I think all the bassists had the same reaction when they played it, though.

It smoked.

Is this a lined-FL fretboard, and is that a light version of rosewood, or a dark version of pau ferro?

I'm going DG UL-FL H B4 next round.

Yes it is a lined fretless. Its pau ferro, and my experience tells me it is a normal color.

Smoke it did... part set up, part cabs, part John F., part lots and lots of booze, make for a fine bass! Seriously, the bass rocked. Was it different than my single H... no - different environment. Was it different than my HH4 - yes, for all of the reasons listed above. The single H rocks - I would even consider trading my RR LTD (HH) or DG HH5 for a single H of the right color - I like them that much!!!

I really did send Dargs an email on it. If that one isn't available, I think I might have to go for a HSC fiver, though.

I'm dreadfully low on fivers, and that's really what I play most....although I haven't put the flame bongo down in a while.

It's such a hot rod.

Wow--I've been wondering if there were any medallion gold Bongo's out there. That's a very cool color, and very cool on a Bongo.

It looks even better in person. There might be a way for you to ogle it in person when you come up for the guitar show. We'll see.

James, I had a Stingray 4 fretless - well, a 5, too, now that I think about it - but the fretless tone on that old beat-up Stingray 4 was stunning, even with me playing it.

And I'm no fretless player, bleeb me.

How's the tone for fretless?
Sounds great too me, but in reality my fretless experiences have been primarily with Single H musicman's. The only non Musicman FL's I have played were a Jaco trib. and a warwack baseball bat, er I mean corvette and I like the MM's better.

I just want to go on record with the fact that I did *not* threaten release of those pics of Jack with the sheep to persuade him to sell me his Bongo H 5.

He did it willingly.

As did the sheep. Baaa.
