I've failed

Well....I always said that eventually I'd get both guitarists in my sons' band to see the light and trade their Fenders in for EBMM's , but what did one of them turn up at rehearsal with today ?...a £4000 PRS Modern Eagle...gulp (and still has his USA Tele) , I mean 15 years old !!! lol. ( a tad envious ) Got to say though, I'd have my Balls any day over it, though I did like the Brazilian rosewood neck, I didn't reckon much on the faded blue finish, Oh well...I stand defeated...but give me a 25th any day.....man I want one of those!

Eventually maybe there ears will develop more and find that EB is the way to go, when i was young the look of the guitar was what i wanted, but then found out no guitar sounds the same, and then i found the sound & look wanted with EB, you have not failed unless you have not tried to encourage them to try an EB.

To each his own...variety is great. I know the guitars/basses I use are the best for me. Tools of the trade. That is a nice PRS. Hope he appreciates it.

Nothing wrong with a nice PRS, quality brand and worthy 2nd guitar to a EBMM. I gig with my PRS DGT as well as my AL's. Top notch guitars both of them.

companies like Ernie Ball and PRS have forced the bigger companies to lift their game in quality. so you haven't failed at all. your supporting EBMM helps them and anothers alike.

Not to worry, he'll come around. The other day my son just popped up with, "so do you think if I got a Stingray, I should get one pick up or two?" He's figuring out that his old Fender just doesn't quite cut it like my Bongos. He offered to trade me his bass for my 5 string Bongo...........I'm still laughing.......

lol...I know you are all right. WTF is a 15 year old doing with a £4K guitar ? ($7000)....He could have had a 25th AND a BFR AL for that !!. I have no problem with PRS at all, I'd love a Johnny Hiland model, but the 'thin' finish on the ME did nothing for me at all....even if the wood is supposed to resonate
more... I guess it is one of those guitars that will accumulate in value down the line though

no. there is still plenty of time. although, a ME @ 15? that's somethin' else.

give it time. took me the better part of 20 years of playin' before I got my first EBMM ... the PRS came later, though .....

Well, a Modern Eagle is hardly representative of PRS quality... That's one of their top level instruments, though i've always held that the DGT/513 is still their best "medium-level" offering so far. (though I would like to get my hands on a smokeburst McCarty) Compare the ME against a normal CE, and you'll unfortunately find quite a lot of difference. Whereas, for EBMM, from the Silo Spec to the JP7BFR, you'll find a consistent quality in every model they make.

Thing is, why are you even comparing? Once's a set-neck and one's a bolt one. One's a carve top, and one's a flattop. They're completely different guitars.

Erm...not sure I was making any comparisons, or putting down PRS in any way shape or form, I think they build some terrific guitars and there are one or two I'd love in my arsenal. My original post was a 'light hearted/tongue in cheek' view of a 15 year old turning up at my house with a £4000 guitar after I have spent the last two years preaching the word of EBMM. Each to their own and good luck to him...he's a very lucky fella.
