BP says JB is a bright light in a dull guitar world. I agree with that. I thought John Mayer would be due to his popularity; but he's basically just doing the Pop thing and not really making a "guitar" statement. That's my perception.

I have more recently started getting into JB more and more. I'm not especially a Blues guy; but some of his tunes are very progressive in nature. The Ballad Of John Henry is a good example. It sounds like a band tune and not just a Blues shredder screaming over a live backing track. I also like more of a band setting. To me, there's a chemistry that's lost when it's an artist with a backing band.

That said, I always love when I see an artist using an EBMM guitar; especially in Country. Yes, I love my Telecasters; but I love seeing an EBMM wailing on a Country tune.

I've seen him a couple times here in Rochester (NY). Most recently, a free outdoor gig during the annual "Rochester jazz festival" last year. Very enjoyable show, the guy really plays well and always throws in a couple of interesting covers (think he closed with Yes' "Starship Trooper"). If you like solid guitar playing I can't imagine you wouldn't enjoy him. He sings pretty well too. Didn't have any EBMM's last year - a couple of LP's and some aluminum tele shaped thing (which I found a little harsh sounding). I'd like to see/hear him playing a 25th...

Something about his first couple of albums has that jam band feel to it. They are my favorite, new stuff is great too, just different.
