I recently decided to pick up playing bass, and found a sweet deal on this . . .

This was roughly the same price as a new SBMM Ray34 (my other option I was interested in), and it's in my favorite color that EBMM has ever produced. Blue Dawn is just awesome.

I haven't plugged it in yet, but I'm already impressed with it. It's very light, not nearly as heavy as I thought it would be. The neck is smooth and fast.

I'm up for any pointers on learning to play bass in general, and also learning how best to coax some great tones out of this bass.

That's a heck of a score, congrats, you'll soon see well actually hear, theres no coaxing just start out with everything in the middle indent ( flat ) and adjust ether way in small increments. EBMM pre amps are incredible and absolutely won't need any modding at all. I swear, you can't find a bad tone, just play around with the EQ. You'll be amazed at how much variation you can get with one pickup with the switch, pre amp and right hand placement. Have fun and welcome to the deep end.

btw, how do you like the Silo, I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick one up and throw some DiMarzio's that I have laying around in it.

It's a disco'd color, but was an LE model back in 2007. They are out there, just not many. I had an SR5 with a maple board. Was my first BALL, but I had to let her go for my backs sake. If it wasn't approaching 12 pounds, it would still be mine.
