Jon - I think I saw it...

I was at the DT/Yes concert in Montreal last night, and it looked like JP was using that teal pearl guitar you just set up for him - little hard to tell from a distance and with the lighting, but it sure looked like it. Couldn't tell if the action was at 1/32 or 2/32 at the twelfth fret ... ;)

Anyway, an awesome performance by DT - JP was his usual flawless self, and James' vocals were perfect.

JP also used a double-neck guitar that I had not seen before - 12 string on top and 6 below. Is this an EBMM custom built guitar?

One other question for you Jon - I realize JP's tech may be tweaking his guitars when they get to him, but exactly how do you set them up for him in terms of action, relief, etc... I know he has a light touch, but how low do you set up the action for him considering he's using the piezo a fair bit.

Thanks in advance for the info!

If the double neck was sparkle blue, its the same one he's had for the past few year. usually uses it on Solitary Shell.

A Piezo doesn't require any sort of special setup actionwise since the string passes over the element in the saddle at all times.

Here's the doughblay:

The new Teal Pearl is still hanging on my wall here. Still waiting for the neck to get to me. As far as his setups, he likes the neck very flat with low action. OC is right, the peizo has no affect on the setup.

On my question re: action and piezo - I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that with fret buzz being more noticeable through the piezo, the action on a piezo equipped guitar might need to be a bit higher than with mag pups only, where buzz is far less evident.

Maybe that is less of a factor than how light (or not) the player's touch is.

What say you?

ok....can I get one of those double necks?!?!!?!? hehehehehe....I think the wife is getting upset with my GAS problem I have acquired recently.....nice double neck though.....

The only way to get one of those double necks is to convince JP to let go of it. It is 1 of a kind.

Why does he have it with the 12 stringer up top? He likes to have his 6 & 7 strings high up by his chin to play those nasty licks, so I would figger the 12 stringer should be in the low position :D

You'd generally put the longer neck up top to balance it out. plus that'd get in the way. I've seen him use it live. It's rather funny really...and well, blue.

Methinks he pulled out at the Wallingford show. And I defintiely saw it the first night of the Beacon a coupla years back.
