I was wondering what you think the overall loss of sustain would be if I did a mini rout behind my tremelo on an Axis. Not a full "Jem" style route, just under the bottom plate so I can do trem vibrato.
I love the guitar to death, but I'd like the trem to work more like the JP for more airy style tremelo work.
Since the trem sits right on the body, physics tells me that there would be loss of sustain.....
You thoughts????
or anyone elses.

I'll be doing it myself, so I also need to know what you guys use for clearcoat.

Thanks,
Steve

I think the loss of sustain would be minimal. The top coat is polyester.

OK...The product we use is custom made for us, and you can't get it. You can use urathane(sp) or lacquer without problems. I hope this helps.

Thanks Jon.
It will only be underneath the trem so I'm not too worried about it. I can get ultaclear poly and blend it.
The mini rout will not be visible unless you look under the trem.
Thanks,
Steve
