The set-up issue with my Sterling that was discussed at length right here has a very happy ending!

Began with a persistent buzz in one particular spot... Rumours of a high fret... Decided to give the experts an opportunity to evaluate and address it, especially since I was within the warranty period.

High-fret indeed! Frets leveled, re-crowned and set-up complete - turned around in the same day! Wow! Bass back in my hands yesterday...

The set-up is fantastic! Plays smooth the complete length of the neck. And, yes, there seems to still be an opportunity to go lower! Unbelievable! Frets all shiny and new! Most importantly, for me, lots of snap with NO buzz!

This "problem" has become a defining moment for me. I have loved my Sterling from day one, but now I also have first-hand experience with what a great company Ernie Ball Music Man is - even for the "little guy". From the forum support, to the Customer Service Department, to the repair (especially the repair - thanks so much, Jon! :D ).

Done... I am hooked... My kids will play EBMM guitars & basses! :)

And with that, a more "formal" thank-you is in the mail to EBMM...

Oh, man...

I'd abandon that line of talk about Jon.. he may need some compost material (read: bodies) for his garden around this time of year... ;)

I'm on the other side of the country, so I'm not too terribly worried about it...

Wait a sec....who let this crazy chihuahua in here? That's odd--it has glowing eyes.

What are you doing with that needle?!??!

Thanks for the kind words! Glad I could help you out. :D

I can concur with adeluca that Jon is, indeed, the man. He's had his hands on both of my B******, and they are the better for it.

*Bongos, you pervs.

I'll stop now.

I don't know if Jon set mine up, but it came (all but) straight from the factory and was setup fantastic!

It is truly amazing what a difference a quality setup makes...

I don't do regular production set ups. Your bass was set up by the pros in the set up dept. I worked there for 4 years before I got the repair gig.

I believe you (Jon) set my 5 string up before I got it, and when I first opened it up I swear it felt like the greatest bass I ever laid hands on. Unfotunately due to the climate change or whatever from west to east - after a week I had to do some readjusting on my own - it just wasn't the same. :( Oh well. I now have something to strive for in my setup skills. It's nice to know what my bass IS capable of also.

Thanks much, I am most likely going to take you up on that offer. I know a lot of the basics and I've been setting my own basses up for years - but I gotta admit, I was humbled when I first took the Bongo out of it's case. I'm sure I've got lots I can learn.

Hey, I ran into Ernie (the guy with 8000 guitars) at a gig the other nite and he told me he's been talking with you lately. I feel like a big happy family here. It's so nice to talk with someone who understands the meaning behind Rolls Burgundy, Radiance Red, Graphite Pearl, Piezos. We're such a bunch of damn geeks. I love it.
