correct me if I'm wrong...once you set the bridge as low as you can go, and you want the action to be a smidge lower, you can lower each saddle individually, right?

get a tiny allen key
and there are two screws on either side of each saddle

give them equal spins (to keep your saddle level)

i usually go with quarter turns

Yes and don't forget you also have the trussrod adjustment available as well.

Between the 3 adjustments you can make the action any way you like it.

hmmm..hadn't thought about that...but the neck's nice and straight the way it is..so I don't think I should mess with that...

i suggest you check the faq http://www.ernieball.com/site/faq_guitar.php

the trem bar tightener you will find if you depress the bridge and look on the back of it
youll see a little black hole in line with the trem bar

i like my trem bar to stay where i put it
some people like it to swing around freely
it is so well designed
i remember my rg i would tighten it up and after touching it it would have loosened itsef

i set the tightness on my jp6 the day i got it
and its been exactly the same ever since

No a JP does not come with tools, even when they're fresh from the factory.

I don't think any of the EBMM guitars do, unless the Floyd-equipped ones come with the 3 or 3.5 mm for the locking nut?

I saw that when I was resetting the springs and whatnot for the lower tuning..so THAT's what that was..lol

I've gotten a few in with allen wrenches for adjusting the truss rod & saddle heigh, along with extra tremolo springs. The majority of the time (especially the past 4-5 months) there have been no tools, just springs.

yeah, I had extra springs that must've come when the previous owner got it..

not giving the allen wrenches though? I think that should always be included with a new guitar..espeically one in this price range...

that's just me though

I stand corrected.

Indeed, mine did come with tremolo springs.

Well, not corrected, but now you have more information :) I've had somewhere over 50 JPs come through, and I would say maybe ten or so had a wrench with them.

You were 80% correct! :D

Mine came with everything.

I've been a way for a while, but I figured I'd add some info I didn't see. Assuming all JP's are the same, the allens that fit the best for me are 1.5mm for the bridge saddle screws, and 4mm for the bridge post screws...

I think I have the right size for the saddle screws on my GuiTool...

but I'm thinkin' of taking it to a good local tech to have my new steve's special put in the bridge position when that comes..so I'm gonna ask him to do an action setup as well..as low as it can go without buzzing!

I got it down some more with teh truss rod..but when I was getting it REALLy low (like the way it is on my ESP) I got some pretty bad buzzing from the 1st to 4th fret on the last three or four strings..so I had to straighten out the neck again..

but I think a setup'll be able to get it even lower...

I measure my action at the 12th fret, open string in millimeters. I have gotten my JP down to 1mm at the 12th fret on the high E and about 1.5mm on the low E.

Getting further down than that is a challenge for the untalented tech on this guitar without lowering the bridge saddles so low that the edge of your hand gets caught on the plate that hangs over the trem just behind the saddles (the handrest). I know, because I've tried it. I wish that thing wasn't there.

I was able to adjust the saddles down just a tad and adjust neck relief and get my 1mm action, which is pretty much exactly the way I like it, no more no less. If you like Petrucci action (less than a mm), you're going to need to do some serious things to the guitar like a fret level. Just ask Jon. ;)

One other thing to remember... you can't just crank the tremolo down on the trem posts like you can on a Floyd. This can cause the tremolo to go out of tune regularly. The height needs to be just slightly above flush with the body. That makes it even more challenging to get the action super low.

But I think 1mm is pretty low, and if I can do it anyone can! :D
