I've been thinking.

To further increase the versatility of the JP, it could be good to install a push-pull on one of the knobs which when pulled, would turn both pickups into single coils, thus giving the guitar two extra sounds, namely neck single coil only and bridge single coil only.

Just wondering if anyone has attempted this and if so what the resulting sounds were like?

Cheers.:D

I've done it - it sounds pretty good. However, if you wire it the standard push/pull way, the nice in-between sound that you currently have gets located in the middle on the pull switch - something to consider. Since that was the non-HB sound I used the most, I took the switch back out and put it to stock because I'm lazy and didn't want to have to make that pull all the time for the nice middle position sound.

BUT, if I were playing out with a number of songs requiring SC sounds - I'd have left the switch in.

I have thought about the push pull mod... I love the middle selection sound, but when I select it, the volume takes a drastic change.

I am trying to set up a boost so if I want, the sc sound will work for me.

With the mod, will there still be a reduction in volume?

You're going to get less volume and different frequencies passed with the two single coils in parallel then you will with either humbucker, that's just how it goes. Same thing with any individual single coil.

That's really an advantage if you want to switch to a clean sound- you don't need to back off the volume as much to clean it up.

Thanks for the reply but I'm a little confused.

Are you saying that you had to put the standard selector switch in the middle AND pull the switch to get the stock middle sound?

Wouldn't it be possible to wire it so the standard selector switch worked in exactly the same way as normal, giving the original three sounds, but the pull switch when engaged just turned the 'buckers into single coils?

Cheers.

You can do this- pulling the pot would kill one coil on each HB and when selected you'd just get a single coil in the bridge or middle, no problem there.

The problem is in the middle position. It uses one coil from each HB, so you'll have to be careful that the coil used isn't the one cancelled by your push/pull switch (which really just grounds one coil of each humbucker). If it's not wired right, you'll get nothing in the middle position since the whole combination will be grounded.

To get around that you may have to change the coils that the middle switch uses or reverse the wiring of one of the buckers. (Not sure on the wiring since I don't have one in front of me.) If you don't want to do this, you could just push the switch back in when you're in the middle position.

I've been playing around with coil - tapping on my Axis. I've found that putting a 5kohm resistor in series between the middle two wires of the humbucker and ground really sounds great, gets rid of the harshness of tapping the coils, but still gets you that single coil sound.

I had this mod done on my Mystic Dream JP. It's a killer mod! I have all humbucking tones when pushed and all single coil tones when pulled. It really does sound amazing. It's like two guitars in one! I've got the wiring diagram my tech put together if anyone is interested. I've posted it before, but PM me and i'll send it direct to ya. It definitely makes the JP even more versatile.

I've mod'd mine to that of the BFR switching. The middle switcj pos with the tone pot pulled sounds huge! And still very tight. Great for chunky rhythm stuff.

Just a matter of picking which coils to short.

I did a diagram up for MMJP6 (had two of the wires wrong originally), PM me and I can email it to you.
