I don't know... it felt a bit "forced" to me. Looked like an effort to get closer to the fans, something Portnoy really knew how to to, and something DT lost when he left the band.

I think it was very nice that John told that woman to say Hi to her husband for him (the one with the leg tattoo). That post made me feel like this wasn't a dreadful idea which was forced on John and he was obliged to respond. He seems very candid and his responses were well written, so he didn't come across as being rushed or inattentive.
