Count me as another with tremendous respect for Paul, and another saddened by the recent downturn in that forum. We could all volunteer to help moderate, but the fact is, a good portion of the mature people simply do not post anymore because there is such a high number of people who don't want to participate in the good threads so the good ones just sink. So, I go and skim through, find myself skimming more, and pretty much realize that I basically looked for Paul's posts because the threads he posts in are usually worth reading. LOL.
Even the gear section, as OC mentioned has gone downhill because people ask a question that they seemingly must already know the answer to. lol. Then someone posts as a fact that the JPM is a down only trem setup... LOL. Mostly it's because they want it to be less functional for shredding than the Ibanez was even though it is clearly every bit as functional.
This isn't Paul's fault. Like he said, there are still a few of the longtime members left, and I don't feel as though I've abandoned it. I check it out as often as I remember to
I do spend quite a bit of time on the net so if you do ever need temporary or whatever help, I probably have plenty of time.
Still though, off topic threads seem to always dissapear and I don't feel that more moderation will cause a turnaround of attitude when there are so many young, and insanely gifted musicians who, while can play like monsters, still never leave thier bedrooms, probably couldn't ever learn to compromise enough in the real world, and seem only interested in talking like they are supreme in thier opinions. Sheer numbers will almost always win without some concerted effort on the old timers to just litterally take the time to somehow turn the discussion base back to theory, and general music. Something like that is like trying to change a fad. Not very likely to happen.
I agree Paul, it will likely flow to another mode as time passes.
