Looks like i'll be trying to locate a hum eliminator for the AC plug and see if that helps. If not may have to take the amp in for inspection. After that, may have to get the decimator. There have been several good things said about the ISP pedal...

So, is it possible that killing the noise in the amp will knock out the noise from the guitar? Or does it sound like 2 separate issues?

Oh, and yes, Andy, it does it everywhere. And like you there was one place we played that had neons on the other side of the wall where we set up and it made my amp's noise freakin' LOUD. I had to hit the volume during silent passages like Clint Eastwood reaching for his gun to not kill the audience with noise...

I don't think the amp is the problem. Every amp with a high gain setting at a high volume buzzes a little bit without the signal in. But it really shouldn't be a loud buzz (it actually sounds like hiss more than buzz).
Anyway, hope you'll figure out what's wrong.

I think the amp is the problem. My JP and Mesa do buzz, but it's barely audible regardless of how close or far I am. (If I get further away, though, the buzz seems to go away, because it's so soft that I can hardly hear it as I get further away.) If I turn up the master volume, the hiss from the amp becomes louder than the buzz, masking it.

Get the amp looked at. I think that's where your problem is. Try your JP through some other amp somewhere else to see if you have a problem there. Rule out a problem with the JP that way. But really, I think it's your amp.

I've been playing with some noise gates: a NF-1 first in the effects loop helps out as well as an MXR first in front of the amp. This only masks a potential problem, but is a semi-easy solution. I am only a week and a half short of my new JP (hopefully), so once it comes in, I will have another one to test with. Be interesting to see if they both make the same noise.

I think the ISP decimator is excellent. I liked it much more than the MXR and BOSS pedals.

I'ts a one dial job but works brilliantly, It varies the rise and fall time of the gate automatically depening on what you are playing. so you can play sticcato chord chops where it acts immediately, than try a sustained note and it doesn't cut it off until the note volume is well under the noise level. Also there are very few artifacts.

sounds like the decimator is the favorite (but the most expensive). I might bite the bullet and order one up. I'm also going to grab a hum-x to see if it helps my amp's noise. Better make sure wherever I order from has a good return policy! Too bad musician's friend doesn't carry the decimator...

Anyone know if the hum-x will help the noise from the amp when guitar volume is down? It gets louder if I turn the gain up BTW...
