Hi guys, I've got an EBMM JP LE 2006, a Pod Xt Live and a Marshall JCM800 Lead Series head valvular 100w original from 1982 and a marshall jcm800 lead 400w 4x12 originale from 1982 cab.

I can't say that it sounds bad, but the head is one of the first series and has only the clean channel, so I can't get any distortion without using a simulator on my pod+additionl distortion though the stomp.

I would like to have a valvular distortion, so I was thinking about a Mesa Dual Rectifier 100w head.
Since I don't have the money, a friend of mine told me that with his father they own a shop where they build amplifiers on the original electronic schematics, and he said that the would have no problem building me a mesa dual rectifier head, and it would cost me less than 500€ because the would't charge me with all the extra costs.

I was thinking about attaching it to the marshall cab, and put the pod in the send/return of the mesa head, so that I could switch off the amp simulator of the pod, and just use the stomp for extra distortion, and the other modular effects of the pod.

So what do you think?
Would I get a cool sound by attaching MM JP->Pod XT Live->Mesa Dual Rectifier in Send/Return->Marshall JCM800 400w 4x10 cab?
Thanks

Hi
I use a pod xt through my Mesa F50 and my Marshall - both being valve amps.

When you put the xt live through your Meas, plug it into the return loop and also plug in a jack or just one end of a guitar lead into the send on the Mesa-
That way you totally disengage the preamp stage of the Mesa and your XT becomes the pre amp. On my XT you have to "tell it" whether you are plugged into a combo, a head or into a mixing desk etc - playing around with these settings will alter your tone as well.
Good luck

I have digitech GNX4; similar to XTlive. AND Mesa and vox amps.

DONT mix and match. use the amps or the xt. I found the GNX4 to sound best through ppowered PA cabs. EV to be exact.

If you continue, you'll just be chasing your tail. If you MUST use them both, A/B box the 2 rigs

I see where you are coming from but doing it my way, you are using the amps as Valve power amps and the XT as a preamp and FX unit.

I've never tried the GNX4 but I have had good results with the XT as long as you spend some time setting it up.

^ effectively thats what I'm doing by using the Pod in the return loop of the Marshall.
I don't really want to go hacking it about as there's not many silver jubilees about.

The little trick I use on the Mesa effectively turns it into a power amp too.

The pod has sounded cr4p through a F3nder amp - prolly because I couldn't be 4rsed to spend time setting it up - but through the Marshall and Mesa it sounds pretty good - and I know you like Line 6 stuff. Oh and what we were talking about via PM is £2500 !!!!

Thanks for the price, thanks to 2 weeks in Vegas and an unsympathetic Mastercard, I think it will have to wait until next year!

the problem is that my friend lives in another town a long way away, I cant send him the marshall head.
But anyway what I wanted to do is use the mesa head+marshall cab, pud the pod in the return loop with the amp simulator switched off, and use the internar drive of the mesa+the sound of tha cab, and then add some distortion with the stomp pedal on the pod and other effects like delay and wahah.
so practically i want to use the pod just as a multieffect, but I want to have a natural mesa sound.

so the question is: would I get a good sound by doing what I said?

Yup It'll work just fine take your time to set it up and be aware that any settings you use in your house will sound soooo different in an auditorium.

I have found the Line 6 forum to be a great help in dealing with any queries you may have on the Pod.
They are here

Why would you use a Pod as a preamp in a Mesa F50? The Mesa preamp is much better, and can't you route the pod's distortion to the input to use as a boost, and the effects through the loop?

I dunno... I can't fathom using a solid state preamp in most cases I guess. lol

+1 on this. Maybe I'm old school, but why waste an all-tube preamp & not even use it?

If your friend's father is going to build you a clone of a Mesa Rectifier, it should have all the gain you need. If anything, run the POD through the loop & use it for effects only.

infact that's what I want to do, I want to hear the amp, not the pod simulator
i want to use the pod just for the effects.
valves rule!!!
