JP pickups: too hot for tuners??

Does anyone else have any trouble using electronic, chromatic tuners with a JP6? Im using a Boss TU 12H and a Korg DT series and what happens is the tuners are having a hard time locking in on the 12th fret harmonics. Sometimes the note reads perfect, then Ill hit the same note again and it will read drastically sharp.

Im finding it very difficult to intonate because of the sudden surge. Any ideas or suggestions?? I do run the gtrs master volume all the way up going into the tuner, and the piezo is off. Ive tried using all three pickup positions but they are all about the same. Thanks

Try a Strobostomp and see if the problem persists. Then go from there.

I've never experienced that problem with my JP.
I have a pre-Dsonic JP, so I guess its output is not as hot as the output of new JPs.
I haven't tried it with any of the tuners you mentioned above though...

i have a pre d-sonic JP and have no problems tuning on my Korg TM-40... and have no dramas with the d-sonic in my lespaul...

When I played a D-Sonic equipped JP6 I used a Strobo-stomp. No problems here. Great guitar too.

I get much better tuner stability from my BOSS TU-70 by turning the guitar volume down, even with my weaker Silo p'ups.

I use the stroboflip and the manual tells you to roll down the volume to about 50% for best results---I've definitely found this to be the case!!!

With finicky tuners I find better results with the neck pickup.

Never had a problem with my D-sonic JP.

I find that odd because, I'm sure I read on this forum from someone in the know that the out put from the pickups on a JP are toned down a little to give a much more even response. On my "other" guitar the output seems significantley higher, but the response is nowhere near as even or smooth.

Of course, I could be wrong!

The output on a D-sonic and a Steve'S special are the same. So I don't think it's because of the pickup. But I oculd be wrong.

I've read once interesting article about how to tune a guitar written by studio engineer. His tips are:
1. use neck pickup
2. roll off tone completely
3. hit the string over 12 fret
It is really working for me

Forgot to add roll the volume down a bit. It helps take the spike off it, which lets the tuner better "hear" it.

I forgot to mention that I did find that rolling down the master volume does help the tuner...

but has any one noticed that intonating may be slightly or greatly compromised once you start to limit the harmonic over tones that the tuner is not reading once you cut down on the pickups output?

Yup intonation if the key in this problem I think. I don't recall people having problems with Dimarzio evolutions, x2ns, super distortions or seymour duncan distortions, which are far more powerful than D-Sonics

There can be issues if you have the pups too close to the string, but that should not be possible on the body mounted JP6 pickups. Unless you mess with the hex screw height.

i get far better results w/ all my guitars when i use the bridge pickup only......w/ the volume & tone all the way up.

I always use both pickups together. Just one of those things I have always done!

Is it possible that you're attacking the string too hard? this will make the string go sharp. You just want to make sure you're consistent with how hard you pick the string when you're tuning...that may sound silly or too simple, but you never know...

I know Petrucci himself uses the Boss Tu-2 tuner. i've seen him use it in many different DVD's and youtube clips.
