Hey everyone...this Thursday I'm going to be playing guitar with my JP7 for a show that we're doing a lot of musicals for. I'm trying to think of a signal path for the piezo and a good combination for an amp. I've been experimenting a lot and want to know if anyone has suggestions that might differ or maybe that might be outside the box. Of course I'm looking for a really nice acoustic tone. The bad news is that the amp I was going to use [just a simple 100W Yorkville keyboard amp with 3 inputs, Send and Return, and headphones] has gone kaputs on me! I guess I'm going to have to rent an amp...so here are my questions and my signal path experimentations so far.

[1] JP7 -> Two Mono Cables -> two inputs on the AMP -> Send Return for a simple pedal

So for setup 1, do you think I should get the Send to go to the soundboard and then return instead?

[2] JP7 -> One Stereo Cable -> Phaser Pedal ->AMP

Setup 2...should I MIC my amp or use the "send/return" through to the soundboard.

[3] JP7 - Two Mono cables -> EQ (right and left) -> AMP -> Send return for pedal

Should I go through soundboard instead of my pedal?

Ok so those were my top three sets that I really liked. I know that these might be some amateur questions but it would really help if I could get a great answer and I knew that this would be the place to get it!

Last few questions...

What would be a decent amp that doesn't cost TOO much to rent. Highest price to rent would be $50. It doesn't have to be a guitar amp, as I do enjoy plugging into a standard keyboard amp with no effects and getting a good sound with the Piezo. I would also like the Send/Return feature AND super important is that I would PREFER being able to plug it in to the soundboard and still be able to hear myself than mic it. The last two shows I had it miked, the guitar could BARELY even be heard. This is why I'm asking if it's possible to go Send/Return to the soundboard and still be able to hear myself.

THANKS!!!

Your piezo will almost always sound better though a keyboard amp vs an electric guitar amp. Unless you rent an acoustic amp go with the keyboard amp pretty much any one that has either a line out on it or a send and return like you mentioned will get the job done for you. I always prefer to just use a DI right to the sound board and. hear my piezo through the floor wedges but when there are no wedges the above will work just fine

Would that be the DI going from the send/return? Could you give a signal path kinda like how I did above? That would be great thanks! And agreed...keyboard amp would work better I doubt I'd get an acoustic amp.

Phew that all sounds a bit complicated to me.

Either take two monos out. Run the mags to your tube amp, and run the piezo di'd to the desk.

I run a stereo out to an EB 6165 stereo pedal which splits the signal.
I run the mags to my tube amp via my FX pedals and the Piezo to my acoustic amp whick can be miked up or di'd to the desk.

same as Spud with my ASS Piezo

two monos out. Run the mags to tube amp, and run the piezo to the desk.

I do switch from the Guitar directly as I have like on a pet a mag/Piezo selector

Sorry, had no internet for a few days. The question is are you only using a piezo or are you using both your pups and piezo.

If you are using only piezo you would just go piezo---> into keyboard amp and line out to the sound board (the sound guy would probably take the line out into a DI then out to the board)

Yes, I'll be using two mono cables and both the pickups and the piezo.

Are you switching between the two for example going from distortion to piezo or are you just using the pickups so you can hear your self since the piezo usually goes straight to the sound board? I don't like regular pickups through a keyboard amp unless you only use it as a way to hear your self and not because you are trying to get "tone" out of it

Here's my signal chain for both my guitars that are piezo equipped:

Stereo cable in>magnetic pickup side into a Spider Valve MKII HD& 4x12 cabinet>Direct out into the house.
>Piezo pickup into a Line6 X3 Live>Direct into the house>monitored by in ears.

I won't be switching between the two. The mode switcher is in the middle for tone. The problem I'm trying to resolve is hearing myself because my amp will be going through the soundboard from "phones." That's why I'm asking about if I should use send/return to go to the soundboard. Both Piezo and Mags are going through two mono cables to two different outputs on the amp. I actually really enjoy the tone I'm getting right now through both channels/both outputs. The tone I'm getting is fully built through my guitar so I just need the amp for my guitar's sound to come out of and somehow go through to the soundboard. Lately I've been thinking of just using those really small mixers as well so that I can utilize the amp and hear myself and use the mixer to go through to the soundboard. This way I have a monitor for myself with the keyboard amp, I can hear exactly what I'm doing, and I can also control the levels and EQ if I need to, and then that goes to the soundguy who can also control levels/EQ.
