Yeah I know another JP thread...well I have two questions.
First, how do we clean the bodies, I'm not used to such a beautiful finish, and being the greasy Italian that I am, my baby's gettin into the GRUNGE
Secondly, the back of the neck feels a little too natural or wood-like for me, can I apply the oil/wax treatment. I realize the guitar is new, but who knows how long it has been sitting out, touched by all those infidels...bastids.
Ah, hmmm that's it :D

To clean the body, I use Maquire's car wax. Just a little dab will do ya. Works great for me.

If you want to do the oil/wax on the neck....I don't think it will hurt. Especially since it was touched by every 13 year old commie that came into the store. ;)

As a fellow sweaty Italian, I make the following suggestions:

1. GHS Guitar Gloss for the body. Works great for me.

2. Leave that neck alone! Give it some time with your natural Iti oils and it should be finely "oiled" in a couple months. My two cents.

p.s. Congrats on the new Pet 7!!

OK but do I apply this polish each time I play? Or do I just wipe it clean with the polish cloth, or any soft cloth?

Second question, the case and the tem arm...I understand these cases are meant to close with the trem arms on...I have done this once, although there is a smidgin of resistance...what I mean is without the trem, there's that big spongy piece that touches the body and obviously needs a touch of convincing (like 1/2 inch) but with the trem it's a little more...I just don't want to force it...thanks!

1. Polish once a week with heavy play. Wipe with cloth after each session.

2. On my Pet, the arm comes out of the trem. Makes it real easy to close the case. Is it different on the 7? Is that arm solid in there like on the Axis?

The arm isthe same on the JP trems (6+7). RAZZOLA...I would treat the neck especially if that guitar sat in a shop for an extended period of time...my PRB was "new" from a shop in Nanuet but I talked the dude down since the neck was DIRTY as hell...cleaned it, oiled and waxed it...good as new.

Raz,

To close the case with the trem arm on and not encounter any resistance, line up the trem arm with the (magnetic) pickup switch - a little trick I learned off this forum whem I first got my JP.

Cheers from Montreal,

Jbert

Thanks, Jbert. Bonne Jour...and thanks OC, Norrin and Koogmeister...I'll try the case thing and I will look closer at the neck, my feeling is that there is absolutely no wax/oil on the guitar, or very little. In fact along with the roughness, my hands stick to it, even while cleaning it takes a good amount of friction to get it silky...I'll keep the brothers posted...thanks!

Out of curiosity what are you cleaning it with???
Which part, the neck or the body. I use a soft cloth shirt just to wipe the strings, fretboard then the back of the neck. As for the body, nothing yet, that's why i asked.

EB polish is good. I use Formby's Lemon Oil or Roche Thomas Fingerboard Oil to condition the board. The Lemon Oil you can use to clean the back of the neck sparingly...in fact on the PRB I referred to, I had to rub the neck several times with the lemon oil to clean the grunge out. The Tru-Oil and Wax worked great afterwards...

Well most of my necks had that silky protective coating, except for the Sub's, which are painted...however the Pet and my Washburn both feel rough, and the Washburn is showing signs of discoloration, so I think I need to giddy up on both...thanks!

I asked for the protective coating that they put on JP's neck to be applied to mine when I had it sent in for the stress crack. It made it a bit slicker feeling but not sticky like the gloss or satin finishes get. I've been quite pleased with it. Plus, I don't have to do near as much adjusting as I did before. I've heard it said that it is refered to as the "artist's finish," but I don't know if that's really official. Someone at MM told me what kind of finish it actually is once, but I've since forgotten.

Oh the seal? Good stuff. Superglue +acetone combo with wax on the top. It will get worn thru (I've done it already). You'll need to keep some B+C wax around to refresh the finish, maybe even some 4 aught steelwool to rub it smooth....essentially the glue is absorbed under the wax, the wax gives it that glassy sheen.

Raz,

For the first several months after buying my JP, I only used the polishing cloth on it (after each session). Finally, about a month ago I couldn't get all the smudges off the body with the polishing cloth alone (I need a new cloth, but haven't gotten one yet). Anyway, I bought the EBMM guitar polish and it's been doing a good job of cleaning the JP.

In general I don't like guitar polishes because I feel like they leave too much residue or build-up. It could be my imagination, but that's my story.

As for the JP neck, I was tempted to treat mine a few times early on, but then it got oiled from my playing as someone else mentioned.

Thanks bro, I have yet to clean it...hey do they still sell those guitar jackets...I remember Jennifer Batton used to advertise them and I believe she played EBMM's at the time...but I could be wrong!
