I'm having bad thoughts of a rosewood neck BFR JP. I currently have a BFR JP and owned two pre BFR JPs, one with the original pickups, one with the D-Sonic (granted it was a JP7). I have to say that my BFR definetely had a thicker tone to it, more LPish than the non BFR JPs I had. What does the rosewood neck bring to the picture? I remember at the JP clinic in Manhattan last summer one of the "one-off" models BP brought was a rosewood neck model (ernie, you have that one right?) and JP exclaimed how heavy sounding it was. But if I rmember correctly, it had a walnut body or something.

Is the rosewood neck JP the woodiest and fullest sounding of the JP6 bunch?

I would say the rosewood neck just sounds different. I happen to like the difference, even though I can't describe the way it sounds. The feel is phenomenal. I've got a loaded Mystic Dream JP6 and loaded Mystic Dream JP6 w/ rosewood over at Beller's for side-by side comparison.

I owned a JP6 with a rosewood neck and it's the best guitar I ever played or even heard. It also makes your hand smell like beef jerky.

Though I don't have a maple neck JP6/JP7 to compare to, the tone and feel of the RW neck is amazing-definitely the nicest neck I've played.....and it looks incredible too!

I'm definetely going to give one a try. The only thing that nags at me a little bit is what seems to be a turnover on them already. Maybe it's just me. I just remember back when PRS first offered the McCarty with the rosewood neck that a whole bunch of people on the old PRS forum jumped all over them, sang the praises and then six months later, they started showing up for sale, those who sang the praises were then saying it really wasn't for them, etc etc.

I know feel and tone is all personal and subjective and the only way to know is to try it yourself and that's what I'm a gonna do I tell ya.

It wouldn't pay too much attention to that as it's just normal.

I remember when Ibanez came out with the 8string RG2228: A lot of people jumped on it, saying it was the thing they've always been waiting for; but after some weeks/months, remarkably many 8strings came up for sale. (I bought one of the very first 2nd hand 2228's and re-sold it after only 2-3 months, too)

It just the same with every new invention in the guitar industry that is a bit special: People have to find out whether it's for them or not. No big deal.

Greetings!
Felix

Here's a question for anyone with a RW neck: Does it have that same smooth unfinished feeling of a tradition MM mable neck? That's one of the things I love about my Silo's and my old ASS -- that smooth maple neck just feels so quick. Is that the same for the RW necks?

YES. It's a little different because the grain of rosewood us more open than maple, but it's still just as smooth and just as fast as the maple necks. The feel is awesome! A couple passes with one of the Wonder Wipes Fretboard Conditioner wipes and it's even better!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the weight of rosewood is significantly different from that of maple? My back and shoulders prefer lighter guitars. Thankfully all Balls, regardless of wood, are relatively light and ergonomic.

My guess is that a guitar with a rosewood neck would be lighter due to the more open grain, but it is only a guess.
