Hi,
For 2006 or earlier models of JP Dimarzio Custom was used. After 2006 D-Sonic is used.
What are the main differences betweem these two models. If you can give a brief information I will be glad.
the first pickups had less mids and sounded a bit boring but very clean. the new ones are more agressive with more grind to them. the majority prefers the new ones. the old ones were based on the steve's special by dimarzio.
The Dsonic is different again to the latest version of his pups, the Crunchlab and Liquifire.
I have played an original JP with the orig pups and own one version with the CL/LF combo. If you want my opinion, the CL/LF are the best pickups I have ever heard, and they are just ballistic thru my Mark V. They give me the tone I HAD in my head as the tone that comes from my amp. It will be a fair few years before I change to anything else I think.
I've tried all three bridge pups -- original, D-sonic, Crunchlab. My favorite is the Crunchlab, my least favorite is the D-sonic. It is difficult to say why. I thought the D-sonic was a bit too thin, maybe it was really only a high-gain pickup. The original custom bridge pickup felt more of a standard pickup, but the new Crunchlab has a lot of clarity and warmth that I think was missing from the previous two.
In the grand scheme of things, though, they all sound very similar and won't drastically change the sound of the guitar at all.
