Hi, this is my first post here, so loud "hello" to everyone!

I usually post on JP's forum, but I thought this technical thing is more suited for this.
To my question, title says it, is it normal that the guitar doesn't produce any sound at all when the battery is removed? I'd think the battery's for the piezo only. I plug in the mono/piezo output only as I have only one amp.
Btw this is a 6string Petrucci limited edition.
I was getting some bad cracking sounds, I checked the battery, and it's got ~2.5V's, no wonder it didn't work well, so I'm replacing it.

Thanks much

I think the batteriy is used for preamping the piezo, piezo EQ plus getting the impedances and signal phases matched. So the magnetic pups has to run through the mixing amp stage too.

BTW I like Budapest, nice city

That's actually what I thought too, but it's a bit weird. It'd be grim to run out of battery on stage, with nothing working...
Anyway, how long does a battery last?

Yeah, Budapest is quite cool, thanks :D I've only been to Berlin in Germany yet, but what I could see in 8 hours was great too. :)

If you unplug your guitar every time after you´ve played, I would check it on a yearly basis just to make sure it´s ok.
I´ve a EMG guitar and I check it every now and then with the tongue probe:))

I could've forgotten to unplug after playing a couple of times. So it turns off then? Anyway, I'll just do it like that and it'll be fine.
Ahh the tongue probe gives me the creeps... I just stick a multimeter, but you're right the tongue is always at hand - whatever that might mean :)
Thanks for your responses!

My Axis SS piezo will work without a battery if I have a cable plugged into the stereo jack. (Magnetic pickups only, of course.) So I'd assume that's also the case with a Pet, that if your battery dies, you can still run with the magnetic pickups, but the cable cannot be plugged into the mono jack.
