So like many of you I'm excited to see the new JP12, which if I could afford it would be under huge consideration as my next guitar, but when it was added to the website I couldn't help but notice that it's the same weight as a JPX.

This strikes me as odd, as the JPX is chambered, and surely it stands to reason that the chambered guitar would be lighter. I figured maybe the basswood is just much lighter than alder, as I'm not sure on the weight of different woods, and thought I'd check the JPXI. Strangely it's the same weight as that listed for the other two.

The JP6/7 have the same weight as the X, XI, and 12, but the BFR is heavier. Am I missing some good reason for them all being the same(excluding the BFR), despite being different shapes, made of different woods and different structures?

TL;DR How much do each of the JP models weigh?

Well . . . basswood is very light, usually much less dense than other guitar woods like mahogany, alder, and ash. . .

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Basswood being light wouldn't explain why they're all the same weight, though. I guess there are very few forum members with all of them to be able to weigh and compare the actual weight. Also, I doubt anyone has taken delivery of a JP12 yet.

Basswood is generally lighter. Alder is a pretty hard wood. And BP has stated on many ocassions, not all wood is created equal. Weight varies from wood to wood even in the same species.

Also keep in mind that the JPX is only chambered on the forearm side and have quite a few less Chambers than the reflex. That'd be my guess anywho. I'd use specs as a reference point.

I've had several version of the JP - Stanard, BFR, JPX - none are bricks. The JPX does not feel any lighter
