Sorry, I have no experience at all with Music Man guitars. I'm wondering when we can expect to see the new JP 12 available in stores? Or, is there some way that I can "order" one?

acwild....just a question...is the JPXI-7 the best 7 string out there next to JP12?

In my opinion, yes. I kept going back and forth as well but I decided that I wanted the alder body as I'd prefer a slightly brighter guitar through my setup. I'll be ordering mine this afternoon.

Kinda off topic but what are your experiences with ordering Music Man (or other brands) guitars in general? I'm usually very cautious about ordering guitars because the set up and everything else can be totally out of whack from being in the truck or storage room. Also I had a bad experience with Gibson and had to send something back because it had a lot of defects. When they finally sent me one without, the intonation was so messed up, the tech was shocked. Anyone ever had this problem?

By the way, I'm leaning towards the JPXI-7 now because of the alder

I thinks it's best to always assume that any guitar should have a full set-up following shipping, regardless of brand. This may or may not include another light fret levelling. (ducking for cover)

I would say that any/all guitars should have a full QC after shipping, regardless of brand. If there is a problem with frets (and the axe is new) then back to the manufacturer it goes.

I wonder if that means I'd need a set up right after I bought it. If I order a JPXI from Musiciansfriend I guess that means it's been sitting in a warehouse or a year =\

Like I said, the only time I ever ordered a guitar online, it was so out of wack, I had to take it to get a professional set up at a warranty center...and it was Gibson.

I doubt if it's from MF that it's been sitting around. My JPXI was ordered from GC and it was the last in stock at the time. When it arrived, the setup was good but I wanted to tweak it for what I'm used to. You may need to adjust the truss rod slightly since guitar necks can be sensitive to temp and humidity changes. BP has mentioned that the JPs come out of the factory set up to Petrucci's specs. No worries on the qc.
