I wanted to make a post in regards to the JP12 and its potential for country music. For the past few years I have been playing a few nights a week as a one man show around the Tulsa, OK area, I use pre-recorded tracks to get as close to a full band sound as possible. My setup is pretty simple, I use a Bose Tone Match mixer, JBL powered speakers and monitor, Fender Deluxe Reverb, Boss GT10 effects pedal and Digitech Vocalist Live 4 for harmonies. I have used lots of different guitars Les Paul, Tele, Strat, Taylor, etc. Each of these guitars worked great but I had to really work at it to get different tones that sounded correct to my ear to blend with the pre-recorded music.
About 2 years ago I got the bright idea that I could possibly eliminate carrying multiple guitars if I could find a guitar that was multi voiced, I researched that idea and decided to give the Godin LGX SA a try, it has got me by and definately lightened my set up load but it just didn't have the electric tone I was after but the acoustic side sounded good enough so I made it work.
I stopped in our local Guitar Center a couple of evenings ago just to see the new PRS P22 and give it a listen, the guys there were very nice and set me up in what they call the vault along with a Fender Deluxe and an acoustic amp so that I could get an idea of this guitars potential, I did like the guitar but it just wasn't that much better than what I was already doing with the Godin.
Before I left I asked about the Music Man behind the case because I had never actually seen or played one and I figured as long as I was there I would play it just to say I had. Well obviously the first thing I noticed when I went to plug it in was that it had 2 outputs, well I got a little more excited about it at that point, after I got things plugged in and started to play I was just floored at the tone and the sound of the guitar, the acousice side of the guitar sounded as good as a 3k Taylor and the magnetic side was just as impressive. I played this guitar for about 45 minutes and let the guys know that I would think about it and be back the next day if I decided to go with it.
I went home and started doing some research on the guitar and was amazed to find out that the guitar is like an extreme rock machine. I watched a few videos and this confirmed that, yes it is definately that. I didn't find any information that would push me over to giving it a try. I decided the next morning to go over and look at it again and this time I took the Godin with me to AB the two. I played the Godin first and it sounded great, next I plugged in the Music Man and it was just obvious, I made my deal with the guys and was off to go try it out and begin the process of setting up all the patches on the GT10 to make this guitar fit into my sound. I am extremely happy to report that none of that was necessary, the guitar just worked.
I do not generally take time to write reviews or answer serveys and obviously my thread is unsolicited but I am so impressed and happy with this guitar I wanted to put something out there just in case there was someone else looking at this guitar as a possibility.
Sorry if this was long winded but hopefully it will help someone.
Thanks,
Russell
