I have a 7 string JP15 with the Illuminator pickups, and I also have a 6 string JP6 PDN (so same wood construction as the JP15, without the maple top) that has the LF/CL.

My understanding is that the preamp is disengaged when the boost is disabled, so I'd expect the guitars to otherwise sound very similar; however, the JP15 is really dull/dark tonally. Anyone else confirm that a JP15 is a darker guitar compared to a JP6/JP7? Based on reviews of Illuminators versus LiquiFire/Crunch Lab I would have expected the Illuminators to be brighter, but am experiencing quite the opposite.

Trying to decide if I should swap out the pickups, or if there is something else going on with the guitar (doesn't seem to be anything suspect with wiring at first glance).

I've owned a JPXI, BFR JP6 and have played a couple of Majestys and my JP15 has a brighter, snappier tone than any of them. Have you tried different strings to see if that changes anything?

Which PDN JP6 do you have? If it is this years "vintage tobacco" package, those came with an alder body which would give it a brighter tone (in theory at least).

I have a JP15 and a JP6, the 15 is definitely brighter and more snappier as advised. Maybe try a different pair of strings or new batteries perhaps?
