Hey Friends!

On my JP16, I’ve setup my action to be about 4/64th on the High E. I wanted it lower but its not possible. On about the 17th fret, high E, if I bend up a full step it will only ring for about 3 seconds. On the B string (same fret) it will ring out a lot longer.… Is it possible I have a high fret in that that one high E spot in a higher up fret?

buy or make a fret rocker if you wanna check that, if it's not related it can be many things :)
Hard to tell you it's your pickup pole that is killing the sustain or your action at the saddle that is too low.

If a fret is high (or low!) it often results in problems on just one or two frets, and usually on more than one string. A credit card makes a very useable fret rocker, very helpful for finding obvious problems. An old out of date credit card can be cut to shape. Cut off one corner so the shortest flat length is about 1 5/16" (33 or 34mm) so that it can span the three highest frets.

Silly questions: Can you measure your current string height and neck relief? How high do you have to raise the high e-string saddle to solve the problem on its own?

Ok I am going insane… I replaced the high e saddle AGAIN (another old spare that came with the guitar) and the issue is gone again. That is 2x I have replaced the saddle in a 48 hour period. Could the high E be cutting a groove into the saddles by accident? How would this occur? If I bend up on the high 19th fret now, it rings true … again.

Super stumped. I did not think the FR 1000 saddles were THAT soft…

Maybe it's not sitting true in the groove in the saddle? I've had issues where I could hear it choking out, but if I move the string in the saddle it goes away.

Next time maybe turn off that delay when evaluating string choke. LOL Would be a bit easier to hear for folks looking at your vid

Anyway, The one time I had this issue changing string took care of it. Either the string was funky or the string changed positions in the saddle. The problem has not returned in 2 years so far. Hope you get it resolved one way or the other

Noted, but I think the choke out is pretty obvious here. I tried changing strings but to no avail.

Stupid questions, but just asking…

Is the bridge level or tilted one way or the other?

Does it still make the squeal with the nut unlocked?

Did another burr appear in the latest saddle you just removed?

If you raise the action, does it still occur?

Level!

Both situations

Yes this is the second saddle with the same sound or burr. I can hear the string catch it when moving side to side

I went as high as 6/64 on high e and it still did it.

Note I am on my 3rd saddle…so far it’s ok. Not sure if I did something to cause two saddles to burr, by mistake?

Not saying this will work…. But try these options separately or maybe together.

1. Maybe tilt bridge toward neck slightly?

2. Raise the action even higher and see if it goes away. If it does, maybe a fret problem (which doesn’t explain saddle burrs, but…).

3. Where did the burr appear on the two bad saddles? Same spot? Right or left or center??
