So, picked up a second-hand jp6 today.

It's Black Sugar, has a roasted birdseye BFR inlayed neck and dots. It's no loaded and I was wondering if someone could give me the full details of the model and when it was in the line.

No pics for awhile as I have put it in for a good polish (get rid of much of the previous owners pick scratches/polishing swirls as poss) and setup.

Thanks in advance chaps :).....oh and if you own the same model, do post picks!

Stu, Congrats on the Roasted JP!
Post the guitar's serial in the "What is the production date of my guitar?" thread requesting the details, born on date, etc. CS will be able to provide that information. I always thought the BFR JP's always used the JP inlay and shields, rather than dots as an option. I learn something new everyday, or just was reluctant on absorbing the little details.

Black Sugar was the 2011 limited edition model(aka "year-model" but without the year as an inlay).

@Doctor: This particular model is a BFR-guitar but it's not a BFR production-guitar. It is the production-guitars that has JP-shields(and piezo and push-pull pots). If it's easier, you can see the Black Sugar as a regular JP-guitar but with a roasted neck, BFR-inlay at 12th fret and limited edition as I believe the wood-types of everything in the Black Sugar is the same as a regular JP-guitar.

Sorry Stu, my mistake. The BFR Roasted Neck(Black Sugar) was a 2010 limited edition, not a 2011. It depends on how you view it I guess. It was available for order in late 2010 but no one got their guitars until 2011. But yeah, I guess it's a 2010 limited edition then.

I can't say how common it is though, sorry. Regardless of how common it is, I'm sure you'll love yours when you get it, both the looks and the feel. So congratz!

Stu,

Ther BFR Roasted Necks were only available to be ordered for 1 month through certain dealers. Music Man typically doesn't release how many of a certain model were made but because the order window for that guitar was only 1 month long, there probably weren't a lot made. My guess is well under 100 but that is only a guess on my part. I have a BFR Roasted Neck Bongo 4H and in that configuration there were only 4 or 5 made so I know it is a very rare one but with the JP guitar, I have no clue. They are great guitars and I love the roasted necks on them.

Thanks for all the help chaps. It's very much appreciated and I can't wait to get it back from being cleaned up. It's having a full setup and being re-buffed so should be almost as good as new. Will be interesting to hear these pups through my Cornford.

As a side note. Anyone know what these sold for new?

And there goes my old RG550 HP, and perhaps my PGM100 too, I don't think we ever determined if that one was mine also. Great pic! love the JPM! Best of all the two JPs rock this photo!

haha, hey whatsup Strange...yep that old HP550, I think the PGM100 has a different serial than the one you had sent, and the sig is slightly different on the back, but I love your taste in guitars :)

Lovely gear-shot. I used to be an Ibanez man myself (well until 6 or so years ago). This new JP is my attempt to bring a similar guitar back into my stash.

yeah congrats on the Roasted, the JP's for me are the most comfortable guitars to play, the Black Sugars are so stunning to look at, however I do like playing the unfinished neck on the standard models (or the Dargie II) that much more than the finished necks on the BFR's. Either way you can't go wrong :)

I used to find that the switch would get in the way of my playing, when I first started with the JP's, I was used to playing the 550's where my hand would sit in front of the vol. knob where the switch is on the JP, was...frustrating. now it's completely opposite, I have to adjust to go back and play the Ibanez because the damn vol. knob is in the way all the time.

I must say, the gloss neck did cause some second thoughts. Will have to see how I get on with it as time goes on. My main guitars are very different to the JP (with the exception of the duel Humbuckers and radius).

Got the guitar back on Friday evening and must say, job well done from my local tech. Not far from as new condition now and playing beautifully. Finding the finished neck less obstructive that others due, I think, to the skinny Ibanez-like profile.

Struggling to get any even half decent pics of her just yet but will do so soon.

so, can you help clarify...

There's the Black Sugar BFR 2010 Limited Edition Run that has dots.

And there's a Black Sugar BFR Production Run with shields?

I've looked and can't seem to find info on the distinctions. thanks for your help

yes and no....

the black sugar was a special bfr run....so every guitar made within this run has a bfr badge on the 12th fret.
just like my Y2D...and there are regular (or original) JPs outhere from this run, and some will have the dots...because on the original JP shields are optional and not standard...on the JP BFR series guitars, shields are standard.

so you can find BFR-Series JPs from the balck sugar run with shields and originals without the shields, but all have the BFR badge on the 12th fret.

hope this clears it up a bit.

So are the specs basically the same as the normal jpx? Besides the obvious differences?
