Well I have had my JP6 BFR for a few weeks and love the guitar.. 3 things I have noticed:

1) The output jack does not hold onto the guitar cord tightly (comes out with little force).

2) Hairline crack in neck pocket finish.. :(

3) The tremolo takes the guitar out of tuning with a divebomb.. If I pull back up past the center pivot point, it usually comes back into tune. I added "Nut Lube" to the nut but did not improve much. It looks like the tremolo is not returning to the same position when released.
I have 4 guitars with Original and Licensed Floyd roses and each one holds the tuning great.

Any ideas on how to improve???

Thanks,
John

Hello Ace, and congratulations. Is the guitar new or used? i can't imagine EB CS allowing you to live with a finish issue on a new guitar.

In regards to your tuning issue, what size strings are you using? if you look on this site, there is a thread that shows you which strings were stock for your guitar/nut. Perhaps your issue is from larger stirings not fitting correctly in the nut? and of course, the strings are stretched, correct?

I too have had my BFR JP6 for only a short time. I am not experiencing any tuning issues, (using cobalt 10s), but I am not particularly hard on my use of the tremolo. I am very new here, and possess only a small fraction of the knowledge you will find here from some of the more senior members, but these thoughts came to mind to help you with your issue.
Good luck, and I am sure others will weigh in soon with ideas to help you.

Oh, I have had n issues with my output jack either, that sounds like a CS question for sure!

I bought the guitar from Guitar Center which they had for a few months. It was locked up, but it was played..

I'm using Cobalt 9s (removed the 10's) so from what I can tell they are not binding in the nut. I also do not use the tremolo hard and all it takes is a slight move of the tremolo and it goes out of tune.. I do stretch my strings well after install.. I was considering adding a spring to put more tension and hopefully cause it to float a little better.

I will call CS and see what they say..

Thanks for your response!

Glad to help. Mine was also locked up at GC, i got lucky, hadnt even been played. Remember, GC has that return/exchange policy, could be an easy way to handle all the issues at once. I was eyeing the beautiful Koa on the platinum site, located in Nashville i think it was, had almost a skeletal ribcage grain to it. I ended up getting the one from Pasadena, since it was within easy driving range to play and pick up.

This is my first floating bridge, I have a fat strat and had an SG, so I am not exactly a wealth of knowledge for you, but wanted to offer what I could. I found the BFR difficult to get into tune with the new strings, lots of minute adjustments, but after a good stretch and a couple hours of play, it is holding quite well. Doesn't go out more than a few cents now. let me know what you find out please. Customer Service is very responsive here, and I was bugging AJ there all through my selection process, had originally planned on a non BFR, my wife bumped it up to Koa.

Yeah, I got mine from the Brea store... I will talk with CS.. I'm not worried about the finish crack or the output jack (which I could resolve).

Take it easy.

The output jack should be a breeze. take out the screws from the output jack plate and look at the inside of the jack (the part the cable goes into). Gently bend the long "arm" toward the center of the jack and it will put more pressure on the 1/4" cable.

I'm not a fan of non-Floyd tremolos, so I can't really chime in on that one.

Rad, that's not going to work. The jacks on the JPs are completely different because they are integrated to the preamp board since the BFRs all have the piezo system. The jeck does have that piece though, but it's much harder to access.

Yeah, I very electrically / mechanically inclined and do 95% of my own stuff outside of dressing frets. I was just wondering others had the same issue. I have removed the jack assembly prior to noticing how loose the jack was. I will take it apart and see what I can do to tighten things up.. Thanks for all of the input..

Could it be a particular cord with a small plug? I've had ones that were a tad small, as opposed to others with tighter tolerances.

No, I checked the jack and the spring loaded tabs are not as close on the piezo jack. The other jack is tight. I have 5 high end guitar cords and all fit my other 13 guitars tight, almost difficult to pull out. The jacks on the BFR are enclosed and almost impossible to bend the tab in.
Here are a few pictures. I should have used my SLR camera! You can see the gap on the piezo jack is larger. DSC03592.jpg DSC03593.jpg DSC03591.jpg

Ace, I really suggest returning it and grabbing another. Last I looked there was one in Sherman Oaks GC. Solve all your problems at once. Or go on the platinum site and have your GC bring the one in you liked the best. I was thinking of your issues as i noodled today, went harder on the tremolo, still only went out a couple cents after two hours or so. And both my jacks are tight. sounds like you may have received a rare problem guitar

I had the same tuning problem. I just bought a JP6 BFR and when I used the trem just a little, it would go out of tune, especially the low E and G strings. They would go sharp. I tried pencil graphite, but that didn't really help. I read about using chapstick, vasoline and Big Bends nut sauce in the nut grooves. Well, I had some chapstick and thought I'd give it a try - what a big difference!! It comes back in tune, not perfectly like a double-locked floyd, but enough to make a huge improvement. I used a toothpick to apply in the nut grooves and on the saddles. I also applied on the area just behind the saddles, where the string comes out of the back of the guitar. I also put some on the tuning posts, though not sure if I needed to. Problem solved!

Yeah, mine ended up being the posts. I rotated them a 1/4 turn so that the blade was on a new area of the post and a restrung making sure to pull the strings all the way through the tuners. It works perfect now.
