plug in the tuner and turn the knobs on the headstock? haha

Tremolo needs to be flush with the body. Take it to a reputable tech and have him set it up for you if you are not experienced with that sort of stuff. If that doesn't help, call customer service ( Haha, got there before you Azazael! )

A buddy of mine who is one hell of a guitarist just bought a BFR. He says it's not staying in tune very well. Mine does but not like a Floyd Rose. I'm just wondering if there is some little tricks that maybe he could try. Maybe his strings just need to stretch out a little. He just got it so.

Well, there are some little tricks, One is to lubricate the nut with nutlube ( I have no clue what it is actually called. )

Lube your nuts with some chap stick... trem flush with the body... and that about all you can do.
I do this and mine stay in tune pretty well.

This may sound painfully obvious but it's something that often gets overlooked. Make sure the locking wheel on the locking tuners has been tightened. If it's not tightened all the way there can be string slippage which will obviously not only affect the string that is slipping, but also the overall tuning as well since when dealing with a floating bridge it will change the tension that is on the bridge causing it to fall back slightly.

another variable that i noticed on my bfr was the strings. had some tuning issues for a while with my new set of strings, but after they get stretched properly and i'm easy on the trem bar it has been staying in tune quite nicely. the other thing that i experience in Canada is the weather variances. cool evenings then warm in the daytime and dry conditions can wreak a bit of havoc at times....

Returning?.... Wrong there.
I own 3 petrucci's, and I have found that after stetching in the strings, to make sure my trem is parallel with the body. If you use nines, I found 3 springs were perfect, Tens I use four springs. I also found that If it starts to go out of tune a bit after some playing, was to snap the trem, and it would go right back into tune. Lets hope that your truss rod is set up right to. good luck.
