Hi, JP6 fans. Doesn't the JP6 just have fantastic attention to ergonomics? EBMMs are far beyond the competition in that regard IMHO, but today I was doing some exercises and crunching out some riffs, melodies, etc.

I noticed something wonderful during all of that. I just loved the way that the trem arm seemed to be bent at just the right place. I had my forearm in the arm scoop and my hand on the bar. It just felt like my right wrist was in a very neutral position. Man, that was a cool revelation.

I tried that out on the BFR JP6 too--to see if I would still feel that the trem arm still felt like it was bent in just the right place. Sure enough, it felt like that.

Okay, that's my bit of love for the JP6 and BFR JP6 design for today. :D

+1, I'm still amazed with that scope on my JP6. It really keeps my picking hand in right, natural position. I believe the shape of this guitar is ergonomic in general. And yeah, there is no competition when it comes to...whatever you name :)

I think it's incredible how they managed to get the good feel of the scoop without using the actual scoop on the BFR.

For me the jury is still out on the scoop and the lower pickup selector.
Im starting to realize why the BFR is not scooped out as much. It really immobilizes the arm a little too much.

I might be wong here but I think the the JP BFR is not scooped out because of the figured top. Not to change or offer a different contour.

I think it would very difficult to get that figured top to match the contour of the standard JP body.

100% on the comfort level of the JP. I find everything to my liking right from the body and arm contours to the neck.

I can't agree with you more Rob on the trem bar. Much much better than other guitars. I have two Ibanez's with the Edge Pro Floyd. While I find them to be very stable trems and possibly have a bit more range in "whammying" I find that the trem bar sits to low. On my JEM if sometimes hit the pickup selector when I bring it over and on my JS when I have the volume/tone controls pulled out to get a single-coil sound, the trem bar hits the controls. These can be very annoying.

The only thing that I'm not particular keen is the position of the volume control as I have a tendency to hit with my pick hand. Not a biggie though, it doesn't seem to be a problem for JP. It just forces me to change my technique a bit....and that is probably a good thing.

No contest here, the JP is my #1 axe. The string spacing, fretboard radius, arm contour, and upper fret access make me feel right at home when I pick it up.

I have been making a somewhat conscious effort to improve my picking over the past year and a half, and I notice it most on this guitar.

I find that I have long arms and my forearms don't sit well in the scoop of the original JP6. The angle is great and everything, but my forearm just doesn't rest comfortably. Think the BFR would fit me better because I could get more forearm in contact with the body. Is this strange?

^^ Nope! I disagree, but I don't think it's strange. Everyone has a different playing style, and no particular style is correct. I think you should try out a BFR and see how it feels. To me, the scoop on the regular JP noticeably improves my playing and endurance. It's just comfortable. You should experiment and find out what's comfy for you.

I love the JP. It's the best guitar I've ever played in every aspect. To me it's the 'perfect' guitar. The proportions, neck, body, contours, pickups, headstock, finish, neck, fretboard, knob placement, forearm contour, pickup selector placement, OPTIONS, playability, TONE, and overall quality top that of any other guitar I have EVER put in my hands. The first thing I noticed about it when I sat down with one at the music store was that when you sit it in your lap and let go to plug in to the amp, IT DOESN'T MOVE! It's balanced perfectly! The same goes for when you strap it up and put it on while standing! Most guitars have a tendency to fall forward or backward when you let go of them while they are in your lap or standing up. That was a first for me! Then once I actually played it and heard it's tone ringing out of my fingers, I WAS HOOKED! I've bought a ball a year since then (working on my 3rd ball at the moment)...

If you just skimmed the previous adoring paragraph - read this: THE JP IS THE BEST GUITAR EVER MADE. PERIOD.

Yup super comfy. A lot of my guitars collect dust. The key to the contour is strapping the guitar up high or else it doesn't connect properly. I was smiling playing both my BFR and standard JPs last night thru my Mark IV.

on that line of thinking... JP changed to the no scoop because his arm is so much bigger now from working out than it was then and now the scoop isn't facilitating the same angles that it was. There is nothing wrong with not finding the scoop to be optimal for your playing.

In an ultimate world, things wouldn't be so expensive to make and it'd be feasible to offer the JP in all configurations in terms of being able to buy a guitar that is basically a JP but without this or that to facilitate other people's playing who want the basic layout and sound of the JP. But, for the real world we have to weigh... is the scoop that I may not prefer worth the neck, pickups, switching, bridge, etc. that I do prefer?

For me, the scoop is fine when I'm in a phase where I want the guitar up high. I'm wierd... I go through times when I can barely physically make the guitar do anything if I have it low... and then times where I have to have it low. So the scoop is perfect 50% of the time. LOL

We guitar players are a strange lot with strange quirks. LOL
