JP6 neck cleaning and steelwool

Hi,

I'm planning to give my JP6 a good cleaning-job.

Now for the neck I got some Steelwool N°000 (extra fine). Do I just gently rub the neck with the steelwool, or do I have to do something else afterwards. I don't have oil and wax for the neck, so basicly I can't really do anything else afterwards I guess. Is it OK to just use the steelwool ?

Get some No.0000 super fine steel wool, cover the magnetic pups so not to get any SW on the pups and lightly snad up and down the neck, wipe off well with a clean cloth, if it fels smooth like when it was new then no need to do anything if not you will need to do the oil and wax.

That's what I did too, fing and it was smooth as a baby's bottom! No need to oil and wax afterwards! I later used the same #0000 steelwool to polish the frets and clean the fretboard a bit after removing all the strings temporarily. One fretboard conditioner wipe later it was looking gorgeous!

I can't find steelwool N°0000 .. only N°000 ... But I guess that this doesn't really matter THAT much.

Steel wool works great and also does a real nice job on polishing the frets. Just don't apply much pressure. I follow the grain of the wood on the fretboard and go lightly up and down on the frets.

The most important thing as well is to cover the pup's as indicated above and cover the body of your guitar. Bits of steel wool can scratch the hell out of your guitar if your not careful.

95% of the time i just use steel wool and dont do the oil and wax job. it works fine for me but YMMV
