JP6 neck differences?

I'm looking at picking up a JP6 soon but in my search I was confused by something. I played an older JP6 and a JPX-6 with Roasted neck and the JPX neck felt thicker to me. Is this my imagination? If not, is this just a trait of the roasted necks or is this a BFR difference? I liked the JPX neck but greatly prefer unfinished or matte necks (not as "sticky").

Also, among the regular JP6's did the neck change over the years?

Evil, I do believe they're all the same (minus a finish on the Roasted), EXCEPT for the JPXI, which is flatter. The JPXI has a 20" radius (!!), and I believe all others have a 15" radius. Hope that helps.

I have several versions of the JP guitar dating back to the first year of production. All have the same feel. Even my JPX which has larger frets does not feel alien when I switch to it. As mentioned the JPXI has a slimmer neck - but that one is not in stores yet.

Damn, guess it was just in my head. Guess it was just the Gloss clear on the JPX that threw me off. Thanks guys! Guess it's decision time... I REALLY want the JPX with Roasted neck but I normally hate gloss finished necks Also, did all of the BFR's come with gloss/painted necks? If so, that's a real bummer too.

Evil, I'm not a big fan of finished necks either, but I must admit I have no issues with my roasted neck with a gloss finish. I don't know if it's the shape or what, but there's no "stickiness" or anything negative to say about it. I LOVE IT!!! My only suggestion would be to just play as many as you can & see what you think. And a JPX with a roasted neck. . . . OH YEAH!!!

You could always try and hunt down a Rosewood neck JP. Those are the bee's knees!

Wow, I didn't know they made a Rosewood neck version. After looking it up it seems awesome but horribly expensive (if I were to find one (then again, so is the JPX). I'm going to get a used standard JP6 for now to make sure the guitar really works for me. I found one for $899 at GC (red burst, no piezo, long finish crack on the back, no back trem cover, but otherwise great condition) and with their 30-day return policy it's a pretty safe bet. I really wanted to get the lava pearl one GC has but my wife refused to let me hang it on the wall with my other guitars due to the color. I thought she was joking but apparently she's dead serious, lol. It's a shame, I love that color...

Evil... You eighter are not crazy, OR i am crazy too... Cuz my JP6 2009 neck is clearly thiner than my friend's 2012 JP6 ... Both black stealth.. Not like an ibanez versus gibson, but they do feel different !!!!

For what it's worth, I picked up a JP6 BFR Roasted a few weeks back and the finished neck was my only real concern. I've NEVER been a fan of gloss necks but for whatever reason I'm loving this one. The neck shape encourages thumb placement around the middle of the neck and even when playing wide legato runs this seems to prevent the gloss from feeling sticky.
