Let me start by saying I currently own 8 Music Man guitars and have owned quite a few others over the years and generally always set up my own guitars. I am very familiar with the brand and how to set them up, I think !!!

That said, I am having a bit of a weird issue (#3), kind of out of the blue with my JP6 not returning in tune when using the tremolo which I will outline. Strings are NOT old, they were replaced in October and gigged once (they were fine then) and put away until this week. To rule out strings, I did replace (ONE) of the offending strings to no difference.

1. pull /stretch strings and tune all
2. depress tremolo and return - and the low E A and G returns sharp (others are fine)
3. pull / stretch those strings and the tuning is below tuned pitch.

I have never ever had a guitar pull out of tune in this case BELOW the tuned pitched, over with well stretched in strings.

Just to cover the basics, I have used tri-flow lubricant in nut notches, saddles, and pivot posts. Cleaned nut slots (which were clean) and tried Big Bends nut sauce. The bridge is level front to back/side to side, springs (3) look great, the guitar hasn't been played a ton anyhow. The gauges I use are 9.5-44 so only slightly smaller than the stock 10-46.

My logic wants to say perhaps a burr on pivot post or bridge plate, but why would that not affect all strings, not just 3?

So, if you all have ideas please let me know....

Thank you kindly

How old is the guitar? Have you ruled out the springs by replacing with a fresh set?
The guitar is a 2017. I bought it used in 2023. It was gingerly used then and now - in fact there wasn't even any pick scratches in the finish when I got it.

I thought about the springs and that would be an easy enough test - I have plenty of them. The only reason I hadn't tried that was because the problem is only affecting the E A and G strings so it didn't make sense to me. But I am going to give that a shot later

I did put in new springs and that indeed seemed to help. Not sure if something moved about in the process, or seated different or if it were springs. It does seem better either way. Will play it as much as I can over the next few days and report back

take a wrench and tighten the nuts at the top of each of the tuning gears. My JP15 special run was new but they were all loose and causing this issue on mine.
