Hey,
I've got the opportunity to buy a JP6 with Piezo option. It's in great condition, the only thing I'm not sure about is the pickup. It has got the "old" JP-pickup mounted. I've got a JP6 with the D-Sonic and I'm very happy with it.. What exactly is the difference between the old and the new one?

thanks,
Mikel

There have been a lot of discussions about this in the past. In my opinion, it boils down to taste. Some people like the old pickup, because they think it sounds smoother. Others like the D-Sonic, because it's more aggressive, brighter, etc. Some people like both. You might be able to find some of those discussions by using the Search function.

I found it wasn't a huge difference between the 2 pups.

I sound the same either way, but I think the D-Sonic does give me a bit more of an in-your-face version of my hands' tone.

To me, there´s a big difference between those pups.

I find the D-Sonic more "accurate" not as muddy as the old pup.
Perhaps it´s only because the D-Sonic delivers more highs, making it also a little bit more agressive but I like it really much.

I say go ahead and buy it!!
JP used it for many years so it must be pretty good! I know a few people, like Pete, who changed back to it over the D-Sonic. And if you don't like it, you can invest in a D-Sonic, and you might even find someone who wants to buy the old one. I say grab the JP while you've got a chance.

I'm replacing my SS with a D-Sonic in my Mystic Dream JP on Monday. The DS has more bite than the SS, IMO. It makes my Roadster sound ten times better. The SS sounds pretty good, but is not as clear and not near as aggressive...

I have 2 JP's with the SS and 2 with the D-sonic. Each guitar sounds different so I like having both versions. Yes, the D-sonic is much more in your face. The SS is smoother. This is just perfect for me cuz I got the best of both worlds.

I like the D-Sonic better. It's tighter, a little more aggressive and scooped. I 2nd the Roadster. It nails JP's Roadking tone using a JP6 or JP7.

I switched out the D-Sonic from my JP6 to a Steve's Special. Sounds great! IT all depends upon how you set you amp up as well. Both pickups are nice, regardless.
