Hi All,

Finally, i have got my wife's blessing for a new guitar:)

But she has limited me to only a regular JP7:(, but its a good start...:D

So questions for the gurus(hopefully from BP himself!)

Is the bridge for the JP7 a dive only or can it work both ways? (dive and pull-ups) I like doing those steve vai stunts, so without the locking nuts, i really wonder how the strings stay in the nut when things really get crazy...

Secondly, i decided on matt black for my ball, i noticed that for matt black, the color of the bridge is also black. is this correct?

Thanks in advance

The JP bridge is a full-floating tremolo, which means it can bend up or down. It stays in tune better than any other guitar I've ever owned, mainly because of the trem stability and the locking tuners which are awesome. You can lube the nut if you'd like, or use some graphite, but I've never needed to on my JPs.

By "matte black" you must mean "stealth". These guitars have all black hardware. There are two other black finishes available, but both are glossy and come with chrome hardware. Check out the color options on Welcome to the Ernie Ball Music Man Company.

it can do both, however, the bridge on the JP7 isn't setup to be like the Ibanez Edge on either Vai's guitar or John's old guitar.

So, to answer your question it is a floating bridge, but I wouldn't recommend pulling notes up toooooo far. The guitar is perfectly able to do it, but I just think John's Music Man is set up differently than his Ibanez's. I'm pretty sure that the Matte black guitar is the stealth, and that comes with black hardware, so yes, you are correct! I hope you enjoy your guitar; I've been enjoying mine for two years!!

You can't pull up as far as a Floyd Rose, that's for sure. I think its range is 2 full steps, as opposed to 4+. That's just a random number though, so I'm probably wrong.

Stealth JP7 is a great choice!

the JP bridge/tremolo is great....but if you think playing Steve Vai kind of things , I am positive is not the best choice... for those for sure FR + locking nut are the best.
IMO the JP stays in tune reasonable if you are gentle with the tremolo and not doing a lot of bends (I noticed G string is first out of tune, preatty quick ) :)

I play the opening harmonic lick from "Flexible," execute Satriani scooped/raised 2-string harmonic screams, dive bombs, etc. without any tuning issues on my JP. Most any tremolo system will eventually go out of tune, but with the JP a simple turn of the tuning peg will fix it. With locking systems, you're limited by the fine tuners and locking nut as to whether or not you can return to pitch quickly. If it's floating, good luck. The "Lion's Claw" type routing is more of a look than function. You can only pull up so far before the guitar frets out or you break strings. I've never felt limited by the range of the JP route, it's setup, etc. String changes and maintenance are as simple as a hardtail. To me, it's the best.
