I just got mine yesterday. I love the way it feels(moral than my old ibanez UV or Carvins) and I really like the sound. It i am finding it to get a bit muddy on the lower notes. Do you find that? Did you keep the pickups or replace them? If so, with what?

Just put a crunch lab and liquifire in mine. It did help. It is still a bit muddy but better. My biggest battle right now is sustain. Not quite where I need it. Blocked the trem from going sharp and some other things. I am on a quest!! I recorded some snippets of stuff w the factory pups and going to a/b them w the new ones soon hopefully. Will try to post links if your interested.

Here is a snip of something I had tracked real quick before pulling the stock pups out of the JP70.
Its a project I am filling in as the 2nd guitarist for the summer and what I bought the guitar for.
doubled the part a minute ago to listen.

The rhythm parts are the bridge and switch to the neck for the lead at the end.
crunch lab and liquifire.

I recorded these direct through an API pre into Pro Tools and used the 11 amp sim. I tried to get the tones fairly close and included a pic of the settings. you will see the name of which is which in the upper left of the GUI.

There are some major differences!!!

Hmm. I have a pair of them and the sustain is totally there...I also put a FU Tone brass claw, heavy duty springs, and a brass trem stopper in 'em as well as Duncan Pegasus and Sentients w/ a push pull for series parallel for each pickup. No mud. MOAR awesome.

A pair of JP70's??

What is the purpose of the brass parts?? tone or sustain specifically?

Lil o' both. Brass anything tends to add punch, the only thing that's missing is a brass block. The heavy duty noiseless springs kick ass too. The real star of the show is the pickups...they're also strung with Cobalt tens.

Thanks for the reply. I will go looking for some of these parts. I am considering going back to the old Ibz 7120 for the sustain reasons. I really like this guitar and am fine with it for rhythm and its sound (Mark V makes most things sound great!) but it dies so fast! I have DR 10's on it now and will prob go back to the slinky 10's after this case runs dry. I know its not the pups and I have been a dimarzio guy for 15 years or more so happy there.
