Hey EBMM family I’m kind of new forums stuff so, my bad If I’m doing something wrong.

Anyways here’s my question I’m about to make my decision to buy another JP, and between the Koa and the JPX, the JPX simple blow my head off, here is the “but”, I don’t know how does the 5-way lever pickup selector work instead of the 3-way. I have a beautiful ’05 JP7 without piezo that’s why I don’t have a clue how it works, if someone can help me out with a diagram I will highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance…

I'd take the Koa over a JPX any day. The Koa's are gorgeous and sound super thick because of the Mahogany body & neck.

That's what i've heard, but the symmetrical-body/horns topic, on the JPX is pulling my thoughts!, and while checking the tech specs (thanks Koogie2k!) Apparently electronics give same results, either 3-way or 5-way selector, am i wrong?

Try both. They are very similar guitars. If you want the bling, go for the koa. JPX should cost you less.

I hope that you love large/tall frets since that made a huge playing difference to me, when I played a JPX last week (I'm not a big fan of large/tall frets). It's an amazing looking and playing guitar though. You're a lucky guy to have this dilemma!;)

Good luck!

Man I'd go with the KOA just by the looks and the wood, however the JPX is chambered so tone wise it's a beautiful dilemma.

mmm actually just one more option, the 5-way gives the option for coils 1 & 4. Thanks anyways. ;)

2 more options over the standard JP, 1 more option over the BFR. So you were both right ;)

I've never heard a Koa JP, so I can't say between the Koa and JPX, but I own a JPX and a BFR JP and can tell you without a doubt I would take the JPX over the BFR. Here's my reasoning:

The JPX is chambered. This adds a bit of resonance and punch to the tone. It also lightens the guitar a lot. It also seems to have thickened the piezo tone quite a bit.

The 5-way switch. I know it only adds 1 extra setting over the BFR, but those settings are easier to get to on the 5-way than with the 3-way and push/pull.

The black hardware. I know this is totally aesthetic and doesn't add to the tone or playability. I just think it looks totally awesome.

And last, but most importantly, the Jumbo frets. It's not a big difference from the BFR or standard JP, but it makes a huge difference in feel, at least to me. Jumbo frets have always felt a little "easier" to play than others.

For all I’ve read should I say:

JPX: Chambered = (clean) Sings like and angel, (Overdrive) growls like a demon? bad ass look? hehe ;)

Koa = Distinguished-classy lady?

From whom are you buying your JPX or Koa BFR JP? If you are here in the states, give Pete Dubaldo a call or even better shoot him an email. He's a forumite and he'll help you out.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Ohhh yeah I've heard of him a lot! on a nicely way of course, but actually i'm out of the states, at the beginnig i wanted to buy it with a local authorized seller, but they told me that is gonna cost me around $300 or $400 more than the original price in the states and that i got to wait around 5 to 10 weeks. But i think i dont have another option. :(

Koa has gold hardware which will rub off on the bridge from your your hand over time.

And I agree with bKrumme, the JPX just has crunch and punch! I'd possibly think of trading in all my JPs for JPX's in different colors if they ever become available.
