Hey All--
I just opened my JPXI 7 and experienced a few surprises. I was wondering what you other JPXI owners were thinking about this stuff.
First of all, the guitar is stunning, and one of the pics do it justice, though it is WAY more blue-ish than I had anticipated. So, there's little surprise number one. Number two: the frets. I knew that they were stainless steel, but I didn't realize that they were medium jumbo--larger than BFR's and smaller than JPX's. It's odd to say, but, the frets are about the coolest thing on this guitar. Surprise three: the strings were a straight set of .09s vs. the advertised RPS custom. Not a big deal, just weird. Lastly, the neck. After playing the 7, I really want to know what the 6 is like. I love it. It's way more everything (flatter, thinner, etc.) than I though it would be.
As I was playing it, I realized that the neck on this guitar feels very similar to one of John's old customs (made by a brand whose name shall not be mentioned here). I owned two of his old custom 7 strings (the blueburst and the swiss camo), and the JPXI neck is shocking similar to the swiss camo, though, obviously, way more refined.
All in all, for those of you on the fence about the JPXI--it is definitely worth the wait.
