Last week I went to see Dream Theater in Atlanta. This was the first chance I've ever had to sit down with the JPXI. I've never even played the JPX! So before the show I sat down with John and his guitar tech Maddi and played his 7 string JPXI. Let me just say it left a lasting impression on me. I absolutely LOVE the body on the guitar. It's just so sleek and comfortable. I'm already a massive fan of the trem and pickups, so that's a given. I've also been playing SS frets for a while now and was really happy to play this guitar and experience SS frets on a Musicman. It's a winner! :) I love it and Musicman did a great job on this axe. And the paint job goes without saying - it's a classic Musicman finish which is really deep and great looking. John's action was set up super low and consistent so the thing was very easy to play. I wish I had the chance to play a 6 string version, but given that I have a BFR and I've seen this JPXI - 7, I can now imagine what the changes are like from it to the JPXI-6. I usually don't have much to say about gear unless I really like it. Sooo, I really liked this geeetar! :)

Financially, it's not in the cards right now. But yeah, it's enough of an impact on me that I could see adding one of these as a main guitar. :)

Nice review Paul and well going to have to check one out, not in the finacial cards for me either but you have me very curious:)
And sorry for the guys that hi-jacked a great post.

My apologies for derailing the thread a bit, but the guy barely ever posts here and if you look back on his limited number of posts usually all he is doing is putting someone down or correcting someone. He doesn't even own any EBMM guitars any longer and he does nothing but put down the company on other forums. Just gets under my skin a bit.

Paul, thanks for the feedback on the JPXI. I am also really dying to try one out. I love my JPX and the fact that John is playing almost nothing, but JPXI's now really says something.

is the necks on the JPXi thicker than the JPX ???

No... the carve on the back is the same, but the radius on the front is flatter on the JPXI so it feels even thinner.

I finally got to play a JPXI in Dallas before the DT show. I found that the neck was what I expected when sitting down to play... too thing and too flat. At first I was like... eh... I like the JPX/BFR neck better, but then I stood up with the guitar and put it about where I play live and that's when it came alive for me. It had the Ibanez wide feeling when sitting down, and was kinda hard on the sides of my hands like thin necks usually are, but standing up, it felt right. Ibanez's that are thin like that still push on the side of my hands, even when standing up... this carve on the back is JUST RIGHT whether on the JPXI or the JPX/BFR/Standard JP.

It is a fantastic addition to the JP family because they are all based on the same thing, yet the subtle differences make them nice to back and forth from and always feel something fresh, but still feeling like its the guitar you're used to.

I can't wait to see what comes next that's for sure.
