......if I need to do anything special to it once I receive it?

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the club.

Just wondering if there are any recommendations or experiences which you have from a second hand Axis which I might need to do/know... any adjustments/cleaning techniqies?

S/N 85710 - I was wondering if i could get a manufacturer date as well.

thanks heaps,

Nick

Welcome to the addiction!

I give it a good "once over" to make sure all is well. If you do not know how to set up your own axe, either read the FAQ on this site (provides some great info there) or take it to a tech and have them show you how to set it up if it is needed.

Play the hell out of it.

Pics are mandatory around here as well. So, when you get her, take some pics and post them.

A full once over, new strings, setup and intonation are pretty much required on any used guitar purchase, ime... The FAQ is quite useful, especially in regards to neck maintenance. Doing a good guitar setup is something you can learn to do yourself, but if you have zero experience with the process, it's best to get the first one or two done by a professional so you have a point of reference to start from.

Welcome to the forum :)

Welcome, Nick.

If the maple fingerboard is really dirty, I would clean it with Murphy's oil soap & water (I think it's 3 parts water to 1 part soap for the recommended dilution).

I'd probably check the 'feel' of the neck to see if it needs the oil+wax treatment described in the FAQ on the Music Man site (www.ernieball.com/mmonline).

I would also let it sit a day or two to adjust to the local climate, and *then* evaluate the action to see if truss rod tweaks or saddle height adjustments are needed.

I would also probably put new strings on it.. Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings for that model (gauge 9).

That serial # is an oldie, probably right after Van Halen left EBMM and they changed the EVH to the Axis.

Don't worry about buying off of eBay, if the seller had a good reputation, then all should be fine.

Oh and.....

Hey Nick, Welcome! (From one forum newbee to another)

I checked out the guitar on eBay. Oh...baby....you can't go wrong with quilted red - beautiful man - it looks to be in very good shape from the pictures.

Enjoy!
