And I wondered... What's the longest time you took cleaning and preparing your guitar for a gig?

I think I set a new record, I'm cleaning for over 45 minutes, yesterday used some lemon oil and now I'm going to fix some nice strings on it. Hell I should start my own cleaning business..
Normaly I would replace the strings and start tuning but with these guitars... Just want to keep them in mint condition.

Well I never really timed it - but this was a very thorough prep ;)

If they're gonna be gigged it will be hard to keep them mint.

I tend to spend 30 mins or so doing a fretboard/neck clean when I restring - and I don't restring every week lol!

Am I the only person that enjoys the monthly string change? I can happily spend an hour re-stringing, cleaning, oiling, tightening etc. Nothing better afterwards when your guitar looks and sounds great!!

I don't really prepare guitars for gigs. They would be well serviced on a regular basis. I just bring them as is, and ensure they're in tune. I also just bring extra strings, and a couple of spare guitars just in case. New strings CAN still break.

ditto I usually clean them after a gig not before :D As for strings I change them regularly so no need to worry

Nope, I love it. Usually a Saturday morning with a pot of coffee, iTunes playing in the background and browsing the forum. Great way to spend a quiet couple of hours. By then the wife and kids are up and about and we're on to bigger and better things.

Man,

All you guys have kids and wives...
I'm just 18, feel a bit young on the forum, hahahaha

OT:

Weirdly, I clean my guitar ONLY before a gig, so not after the gig. I usually roam around the place we've been playing and using the ''free drinks for artists'' service :)

I gotta clean mine after. The way I play it's coveted in sweat. My pups are rusty and the bridge is taking a hit. That's what happens to my guitars. I got real corosive sweat. Like battery acid!!!!!

Spud, that's classic mate! I didn't even read your post. Just seeing the parts spread after the original post made me laugh. Classic.

Hee hee = just imagine if you had to that before every gig !! lol.

Silo - I would just give your guitar a quick wipe over - otherwise you end up with the paint going cloudy - well not the paint itself, its just the deposit the sweat leaves when it dries. A quick wipe - then onto the bar.;)

But keep an eye on yer gear cos nowadaze things go "walkies" ever so easily.

I usually do the same. I like new strings when I am playing a gig. I also go through the same process when I break a string.

An hour, 45 minutes-? What you guys giving back rubs and manicures lol.15 minutes tops for everything, except winter and summer when I systematically give a setup and polish all my guitars which takes a few hours, though I enjoy it.
