ok so i started by blocking the trem
removing the strings
then the springs and removing the tremolo block

i thought damn
cos there is that little wire running through for the piezo
but i knew in the back of my mind that the great guys at music man had obviously thought about this and i found a convenient little unclippy thing on the output :)

so now i taped up the fretboard and 0000 steel wooled the frets
after this comes a coat of lemon oil

while this is happening i cleaned the trem cavity and tremolo block with a brush
then with some acetone on a cottom swab
i then applied a lubricant called dri glide which contains ptfe

let that settle in a bit
then i 1200 grit sanded the back of the neck
then gunstock oiled and waxed
then repeated.

lemon oiled the neck again
reinserted tremblock
set up with new strings
and hey

wow
the neck has never felt so good
i swear it is the smoothest neck in the city

anyone else done this?

I've done the sanding, oiling and waxing of the back of the neck. I've done the lemon oil, but I haven't done the steel wool. Makes the neck like glass. Wonderful.

i actually just gave my jp6 a bit of a cleaing last night :) not quite as extensive as the work you put in though.

i taped off the pups, steal wooled the neck, changed strings, lemon oiled the board then busted out the polish and spiffied her up.

gorgeos axe and, damn, what a player!

the jp6 is one great beast!

I do this to all my guitars from time to time. It's necessary maintenance. In fact, yesterday, I adjusted the truss on my JP6 for the first time since I got it new in 2004. Considering I live in the North Eastern section of the US, that's pretty damn good.

I adjust the truss rod almost every 3 months or so. The weather here in CT is so insane that we can have one day in the 80s with sun, and the next will be in the low 40s with rain (or snow). Come to New England for 3 days and experience all 4 seasons.
