Maybe one of the reasons why it's growlier is due to the EB Slinkies on there? Just throwing it out there.

I know that question was directed at phatty, but YES!, right on! Sterlings have an extreme mid punch that gives them a very different tone to my ears than stingrays.

most definately agree with figgy.

i dunno if im a sterling expert, but i sure do like em a lot. i can think of at least one guy more qualified to be called the expert.

imo the sterling can get very aggressive which i love tonally. also, being a smaller guy the neck feels great in my hands allowing me to "manhandle" the bass ... so essentially i can play more aggressively too.

its a great bass, but they all are really. i sold my SR4 to beej a while back cuz i wasnt too into the stingray - size, tone etc - but i love the Sr4HH & and im really excited to get the 30th ray.

but ya, the sterling is my fav. in the lot. id probably say the HS is my fav pup combo.

I have to agree with this, even though I havent compared my sterling against an SR4 but against an SR5.

I love everything about a MM Sterling. Right down to the cool name. The one thing I wasn't crazy about MM has changed. That was resting my thumb on the top of the pickup where there were two humps for the screws. I am actually use to that now and am comfortable with the design but the new models have a NICE smooth surface contoured for the thumb. So the Sterling is perfect in every way.

Actually I would be interested in how this change in pickup cover design came to fruition. Any takers????

Thats the pickup they used on the bongo. Guess they liked it better. I actually like the old style better. I find the new shape very weird feeling.

So are you guys using the new shape even on H models now?

Shamus bought his sr4 not long ago and it had the old style SR4 pickup. Thats a good sign. I hope they continue to use that shape on the H models.

Curious about the Stingray5 H now. Id imagine they keep using the old one as well, but then that would make me think , why wouldnt they keep using the white as well.
