Hi,
I just wanted to follow up on my comments from last week regarding my "new" 4-string Stingray. I bought the Bass used from GC last week. It's a 99' 4-string, with translucent orange finish (no matching headstock), white pearloid pickguard, maple neck and 4 band EQ.
I used the Bass "live" for the first time last night during band rehearsal. I have never played a Bass that played and sounded so good. Now keep in mind that I do not yet have a full rig yet as I have just switched back after playing Guitar for 5 years. So, I ran the Bass through my Trace Elliott Pre into the PA. Even through Peavey PA speakers, this Bass sounded F*@ing insane! It cut through the room like a knife! All the frequencies were well represented. I received compliments from my fellow bandmates regarding the sound of the Bass. I am very pleased with this instrument.
We also recorded a song live (we rehearse in our recording studio). The signal chain was Stingray > Trace Elliott Pre (forget the model #) > Mackie Digital 8-Buss > Mackie MDR (24-track Digital Recorder). I compressed the Bass a bit with the d8b's onboard plugin. That was it. I now understand why so many people love the stingray. It is by far my favorite Bass. The sound on tape (er, Hard Disk!) is stunning. I have been playing for 16 years. During my career I have owned quite a few nice basses (93' Les Paul, 82' Jazz, 00' Stuart Spector). While all of them had nice qualities, the Stingray blows them away!
I know that I am preaching to the choir here, but if anyone is visiting this forum to help make up their mind about purchasing a Stingray, I say go for it! You will not be disapointed.
Peace,
Tom
