Well, now I've done it. Guitar Center had a used Silhouette and I accidentally bought it. It was owned by a salesman there who bought a Les Paul and seemed genuinely sad to see it go...Seemed -- He is a salesman, after all.

Anyway, he said it's a 1991. Hard tail. Single-single-humbucker. He replaced the stock humbucker with a PRS. Maple fingerboard.

After a quick check on Ebay, I think I did reasonably okay on price: $637 after tax.

Doesn't have the locking tuners or the wonderful satiny neck that my new Luke has, but I really prefer the Sil's passive p'ups to the Luke's EMGs. And the finish is gorgeous -- a Something Sunburst. Not sure what the "Something" is. Here's a photo:

So, what do you think? Was it a good purchase? I have a month to return it. My bank account dictates that I either return this one or sell the Luke...just can't afford to have both at the moment.

Damn, that's a nice silo!

I'd play it for a week or 2 before making any decision. You should know by then.

Luke's in that color are everywhere...well, you know what I mean.

Was that the used sunburst Silo at GC in Paramus NJ?

If so, I played that one a few months ago, it felt nice and played well but I had a few questions and the salesman who actually owned it was out at lunch. My concerns were that it was 24 frets and had a Silo headstock but the HSS config which made me think Sil Spec. Plus the neck was finished. I wanted to know what kind of mods were made but the other guys didn't have any answers.

I'm guessing the age anwers some of the questions. You might want to request a DOB on the serial # and confirm the specs. It was a sweet guitar though and a good deal.

Good Luck with it

They had finished necks back then, and they had the hss option. I don't know if they still are, but back then the pickgaurd with pickups was swapable with no soldering. I believe you could get it with HSH, SSS, or HSS but I'm not sure on the SSS.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm compelled to keep glancing over at it. I love that finish. And, yeah, it's not often you see a Luke in a color other than that.

You're right about playing it for a couple weeks. I should stop thinking about it and just wait for the decision to make itself.

That's good to know -- I actually like the HSS for now.

Except in my little studio where there's a purple one, a blue dawn one, and a sunburst one with a piezo!

No buyers remorse either.
