Antman, I do.....all the time....and it still managed to slip.

I would follow this method, and I still had the issue of slippage.

Another "trick" is to use hockey tape...yup. I like Black hockey tape, I use it for lots of things - behave!!! :D

It is a cloth type tape that is sticky on one side.

1 - cut string to proper length
2 - cut a short length of tape just long enough to fit end of string and one wrap of string around post (about 3 inches)
3 - put tape lengthwise and wrap around once
4 - cut off extra tape long ways - string will look like it has a sheath over it.
5 - stick end of string into post hole
6 - bend around post and wind as usual

This should keep it from slipping. It is a lot easier that it sounds and will not mark up the posts like filing would.

I was always told to make the 90 degree bend before cutting the string. It supposedly kept the overwrapping (round or flat) from slipping on the end of the string core.

I did minor filing which isn't even noticable once the strings are on it. I just took a bit of the polished look off...nothing major-trust me! lol

Good advice which works most of the time. I've had more than one or two flatwounds come loose. The core can break free of the wrap and then, hoo, you're never going to get that sucker tuned up past Suicide Z-flat.

Never ever had a problem with flats slipping until I tried to get the C string on the Bongo 6. LOL wrestling match ensued. Whatcha do is tie a double underhanded granny knot and bowline. then ya commence to winding.
