We packaged a bunch (and I mean a bunch) for Keith in the early to mid-90's. Either we sent him a lifetime supply, or he isn't using them anymore ... last time I saw the Stones play (albeit on TV) pretty sure he was using all 6 strings.

Yep Keith doesn't use a 6th string for his open G tuning on some of the stones tunes.

Its like Keith Favorite saying: "All you need is 5 strings, 2 fingers, and 1 A$$hole"

only way to play rolling stones songs correctly is to use Keith's tuning and do the 5 string thing. first time i tried it I was amazed at how much that tuning is the Stones sound.

Yeah, it was a cool find! I didn't realise how rare they were going to be when I bought them- I just assumed that he used them regularly and discarded the packaging when done!

Keith uses a lot of guitars but always returns to that Telecaster he calls Micawber, which is strung with 5 strings for the open G tuning...

keith uses 5 string open tuning on songs like tumblin dice, honky tonk woman,j j flash, brown sugar to name a few. put a capo on the 4th fret for tumblin dice, there are a bunch of sites that can show how. you will be suprised how easy and fun it is, plus you will get that stones sound! the tuning is open g for the songs that i mentioned.

Found this old thread after searching for Keef.

Here you can find some equipment pics from Keith including Micawber.

And to make my post a bit EBMM related I also found a cool vid with a silo :):[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybP40lbKFTg"]YouTube- Keith Richards and the Xpensive Winos Gimme Shelter[/ame]
