hello folks!

last friday i was falling in love with a koch amp...:) i wanted to buy me a hughes and kettner switchblade because i also play in a rock-cover band - and the flexibility, etc. of the switchblade is really nice for that price...

BUT after checking out some engls, hughes&kettners, laneys, framus, riveras... i came to the kochs... i plugged in the studiotone a small 20w classA amp and it just blew me away! never played trough a koch before and i was always told from friends that these amps are awesome.
now i am going to purchase a twintone II from koch! i think my luke will dig that amp a LOT...

the clean channel is one of the best i have ever heard.
the crunch and overdrive sounds also really great - for high-gain solos i need a pedal i think... maybe a tube-screamer or a zakk wylde overdrive... or something else.
i am totally excited about the koch and can´t wait to get one - the character of the studiotone/twintone II is absolutely great - amps with balls...:D

anyone here who had a similar experience with a koch - or an amp in general...?

ciao
tom.

Just be aware: the Studiotone and Twintone sound nothing alike! Personally, I like the Studio, but hate the Twin... Just a word of caution ;)

why do you hate the twintone?:( for me both amps sounds like KOCH... and are both killer-amps.

has anyone a soundfile of a twintone with a luke? ...maybe my fellow (countryma n) "auge"-augustyn;) ?

i think the multitone and the twintone II are pretty similar from what i´ve been told. unfortunately i couldn´t play a multitone so far.

I tried the Koch Multitone head and it didn't impress me. It can't do metal either. Heard the Twintone was alot better at the heavy stuff, but I didn't try that one.

Hmmmm...

I had a Multitone for a while and I would be very hard pressed to say it "can't do metal". Sure handled it just fine as far as I can remember. I was quite impressed with the Koch stuff. Just turned out it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. But, man, that Multitone and 4x12 cab sounded amazing! A tad more compressed and more "modern" sounding than I like - but still beautiful nontheless. Just not my cup of tea.

I have a Koch Twintone and this is what I'll say about it:

A. Clean channel rocks

B. Overdrive channel leaves a little to be desired. Doesn't do my kind of metal.

C. I would suggest an OD pedal.

This amp is really wierd for me in that some days I can dial in really great tones. Other days I dial in something completely different, and it sounds good. Some days no matter what I do I can't get it to sound like what I'm looking for.

The Kochs I've heard all had a fusion vibe to it. Really nice, but doesn't do it for me.

thank you for the feedback guys!

jaxadam - i can understand the thing with the od-pedal... the overdrive-channels are great and can do metal - for sure... but i play a lot of high-gain solo things like the lukather/zakk wylde/.. stuff... so i think an od-pedal would be the best way to get an extra amount of gain...
which one do you have/suggest?

well i am a little bit surprised about the opinions but everybody has a different taste... :)

Well, to me the gain tones on the Twintone aren't dynamic enough - it is very smooth and compressed. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE high gain (I play a Diezel), but I like a bit more definition, cut and agression (dare I say character?) than the Kochs offer. There's nothing wrong with the amps per se (apart from the Powertone II I blew up ;) ), I just don't like what they do.

Cheers
