last nights jam

Yesterday a friend called me to say he’s ready to get and electric guitar. I told him the same thing I told another friend when he said he wanted another electric guitar. “Dude! Come by the house and let me put some guitars in your hands!” I’ll get them to try out the EBMM’s and then encourage them to try other guitars as well.

Last night I went to the local Open Jam. They are really cool with me there cause they let me break the format and play my solo stuff. (They recognize I lack the social skills necessary to be in a band but they encourage people to keep playing no matter how bad I suck. God Bless them each and every one.) Last night I thought I’ll just play Vista Grande (Steve Morse)

Well the mix was just weird, the piezo to the house PA was like nothing I had ever heard before. I don’t know if I liked it or not. The EBVH (Ernie Ball Volume Hammer) I was using to control the clean to dirty channel on my amp didn’t do what I expected it to do. Something about having the two inputs from the guitar plugged in to different (unfamiliar) amps caused a noise I haven’t heard before. Changing channels by hand on the amp in the middle of the song. Then I played like crap on top of it all. But just like Luke says:

Sometimes you got to just ignore all these things and just play

To my surprise the line of people waiting to talk to me after I finished was way cool. Like 8 other guitar players wanting to tell me how much they liked it and what was that. Several of them were very interested in knowing what kind of guitar was playing as well.

I was so proud to show off my Ernie Ball Music Man guitar. (G22222) Then I politely invited them to go to a local guitar store that has a nice selection and try them out for themselves. They seemed anxious to do so.

As I don’t see advertising for EBMM guitars in magazines I figure the only way word gets out is word of mouth. If Steve Morse didn’t tell me about them I never would have known. BP said part of his plan with the open house was to get us to go out and spread the word about how cool EBMM guitars are. Well even with every thing that went wrong, it’s an easy thing to do. I love doing exactly that. Come let me share with you about something I love. Something that brings happiness into my life every day. I hope that is what BP wanted me to do because that’s what I am doing anyway.

I just talked up my on-order Y2D today at my local music store (Brighton Music Center) who is NOT a Music Man dealer. I made them pull up images of it on the web and have a gander. I told them all about the open house. Best of all: Jim, the owner, was in today so I got to chew his ear about all this!

I ordered an Ernie Ball Splitter Box while I was there..

I get asked all the time at gigs who make my guitars. I proudly tell them EBMM!!!

I spread the word as much as I can!

I'm a little torn on this whole 'spread the word' thing. I almost want to keep the EBMM secret to myself. Don't get me wrong. I do want the EBMM team to suceed, but let's think about this for a second.

...popularity grows quickly, causing a rapid increase in demand
...supply shortages necessitate expansion and further automation
...attention to detail slips
...quality suffers
...custom shops open to make quality instruments again
...prices for the good ones skyrocket

Of course I know BP wouldn't let this happen to EBMM, but it's not like it hasn't happened before. How about we 'quietly' spread the word? Heck, I like having a more 'rare' instrument!
