Whats up guys? I just picked up a baeutiful Lava Pearl Stingray w/ matching headstock and maple fretboard. My question is that according to EBMM, my serial number comes back as being a Bongo, or at least according to Scott Ball. Does anybody know if the color is what threw things off? Has anybody else seen a Lava Pearl Stingray? Just kinda curious...

Hey man. The serial is E35413. Accordingly, they say it was made 08-01-03. Also, if it helps, the build number is 110-29-11-05. Thanx!!!

All my Bongos and all the Bongos I've seen so far have serial numbers beginning with "F" rather than "E".

So there's one thing.

Second, it looks to me like a regular Stingray serial number.

For example:

E35104 was built in January of 2003.
E35759 was built in March of 2003.

Your serial number falls in between those two, so unless it's chronologically incorrect, which does happen, I'd say your bass was built in early 2003, probably February.

Sometimes Derek and Jon check in and we'll see what they say, but that serial is perfectly okay for a Stingray and not perfectly okay for a Bongo.

Now that I think about it, was Lava Pearl being offered in early 2003? Now THERE is a question.

That # is for a Lava Pearl Sting Ray with matching headstock, and white pearloid pickguard.

I thought it looked like a Stingray #. I know my Bongo number was different which why I thought is was weird. Cool, well at least I know it exists. On the other hand, how did it wind up Lava Pearl and how many others are like it? Any ideas?

that lava pearl is a great finish. i played one (SR 4) at guitar center in atlanta, matching headstock, maple board, white pg. cool bass but i opted for the beautiful medallion gold finish, with a rosewood borad and white pearloid pg. WOW.

Hey, you played my bass then! I saw it and had to have it, even though I generally try not to deal with guitar center, they really hooked me up this time...

Bit of a strange story... I actually purchased a Bongo in Feb, and although it was a great instrument, it just wasn't me so it sat around for the last few months. Then when I saw the Stingray, I knew I had to have it. So I took the Bongo up there to see what they could do for me and since it was still as new (even the stickers on the back), they just went ahead and swapped me. Considering the price difference, I came out about $200 ahead, and much happier...

Crazy story about that one! I found it new in Canda in Sept 2002 and had it shipped to me in ATL where I owned for about 8 months. Then things got rough, so I was FORCED to sell her. Things got better about four months later and I was looking for a new bass when I found something on Ebay that looked oddly familiar. Turns out my bass had floated from music store to music store and when I finally found it, it was about 2 hours north of me in Cartersville. So I drove up to get it that afternoon and it was exactly how I had left it. So now it doesn't get played all that much, unless I'm at home. I did mildly modify it by putting a mirrored pickguard on it since it originally shipped with a flat white one. But thats the story of the alder bodied, stratus blue sparkle w/ matching head stock, maple fretboard bass...

Hm... That's not the Sparkly Blue I had, then. The one I had was equiped with a rosewood board. Anywho, interesting story! The bass somehow found its way back into your home. :D

I have a Lava Pearl SR 5 - Rosewood fret - Maple head - White Pick guard. Made Sept '03
My serial is E38586

This color so so freaking ugly its pretty. In fact, it is growing on me so much that I am actually thinking about buying a Honda Element just to match the color.

Click on the Sunset Orange Pearl.....Kinda CLose

I need a diff PG for it tho, cant figure out the right color....Maybe the one you have.

Mine originally came with the white pearloid, which looked pretty good. I've actually already replaced it with a custom one. I've got this thing about customizing my instruments...
